Missing a cool themed queue in the FP line?

The SDMT opening has me wondering whether the FP line really sees any of the cool theming and interactive stuff in the queue or bypasses it? Similarly, I really don't remember whether other rides have a FP line that skirts around a well-themed queue, or go through the same area in parallel/faster line.

I don't want to wait an hour for anything, but imagineers do such a good job on some rides! The first time I got to ride ToT, for instance was a slow time of year and apparently slow day - I got to race through the line - it seemed like a pretty cool setup, I wouldn't have minded a *little* slow down to check it all out!

Who's got a cool queue? Which ones do you actually miss when you dash thru FP?

Off the top of my head I know both Pooh and Dumbo have great queues for the standby lines and the FP lines run right past them

You do miss the interactive elements on 7DMT in FP, and also in a number of others, including Pooh, Dumbo, Soarin off the top of my head.

Is the line mostly outside? Inside? Air conditioned at any point? We are going in June and have FP for it. I might not mind waiting in the regular line if it is very interesting, air conditioned, and no more than an hour. I haven't wanted to look at any "spoilers" so I don't know much about it.

Toy Story Mania--miss all the toys and Mr. Potato Head. Some cool stuff but the queue winds through the same area so the same items are seen almost the whole time. Worth seeing if the standby isn't too long?

Expedition Everest--miss displays for standby line but the FP line has some of its own to help promote the storyline

Under the Sea--the standby line doesn't do much for me so missing it isn't a big deal; the FP line feels like a much shorter walk

Test Track--miss a lot of displays but not worth a look for me; can't remember what all is in the standby line since the ride was changed though

Haunted Mansion--miss the interactive queue which is not worth a wait for us if there happens to be long standby waits

Both EE and Dino at AK have "museum" like line areas. If the line is short and you want to enjoy just step to the side and allow others to pass (I had to stop for a pic in EE line, it was hilarious to me). But, for the most part, line fun is mild entertainment to pass the time and I would never regret having missed it in a fast moving line or due to FP.

Congrats on the first trip to WDW!! One of the differences between DLR and WDW is that WDW has more indoor queues, which is better for sun exposure, a/c, and rain protection (typically daily). But, there's is a lot more walking between venues. Noticeable differences you will see, covered lines for pooh, small world, and tea cups, completely indoor lines (unless too long) for space Mtn and soarin'.

is another entertaining queue. I remember having to let people pass us so my daughter could watch the screener right before you load.

Still, given the choice between:
- 30-45 minutes in the standby line in Space Mtn playing the asteroid games (fun though they are)
vs.
- riding Haunted Mansion / Splash Mtn / BTM during those 30-45 minutes

I'll go with FP.

I'm lucky to get 2 days at MK, and 1 day at the other parks. I appreciate WDW entertaining people in standby lines, but I'll take 2-3 more rides over the interactive queues.

I'm with you there! but I'm traveling this time with 3 generations of extended family, so FP and touring will be a bit of a science. Knowing some of this will help me prioritize FP+ selections or choose between rides once in the parks

Yes. For OP, FP line doesn't bypass the queue area for Star Tours.

Thank you. That sound good to me. I'm also thinking the queues must be better at WDW. At DLR, TSMM has the most boring queue of all and it is hot and seems to take forever. I almost feel like I want to try standby at some of these. Almost.
