Like the old fart that I am I fell asleep and missed the middle and end of Miss America. I just got out of the shower and low and behold Miss Massachusetts won. I didn't here where she was from, now on to Miss Universe, looks like we have a chance.

I think she is from Lawrence. I forgot it was on, got into bed and while flicking thru channels found it. So my dh and I sat there, saying we'll watch until we see Miss Ma in the group. Well, couldn't find her. Duh!!! She had already been chosen as one of the final 10. Way to go!!!

Miss Mass will do great in Miss Universe! I had her as one of my picks from the beginning. I thought that Miss Texas might win with all of the home crowd support.

The winner was Susie Castillo of Lawrence MA.

I was in total shock last night. I turned to the station just before the news, when they had the final 5 ladies waiting. When they announced "our new Miss USA is ...." and said Massachusetts I thought no way. Then they said Lawrence and I said NO WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's where my Mom's family is from.

I think this is the first big win in either the Miss USA or Miss America pageants for a Miss Massachusetts. We've made the final 5/10 before but never the top prize. Miss Merrimack Valley (includes Lawrence, Methuen, Andover, N. Andover, Haverhill) has also gone on to win many Miss Massachusetts crowns in the Miss America competition before.

Susie's very cute and hope she does well in the Miss Universe Pageant.
