Mispronounced Names?

Bob Slydell said:
It's usually just spelled wrong (well, not wrong, just differently). I'm Stephen, not Steven. :)
My sons name is Stefan but he often gets called Steven, or they just mipronounce using an accent, it's pronounced "Stefun"

My name is Deena, pronounced DEE NA. Im rarely ever called DEE NA. Im called Dee anna, Din ah, Tina. You know its really not a hard name but it gets butchered every time.

My youngest DD's name is Kaya. Rhymes with Hi ya. Not Hey ya. My maiden name was McCasline (Mick-Cas-lin). I was called Ms. Masculine more times then I could stand. I was happy to get rid of it.

Talk about trouble in school! My legal name is Dee. None of the teachers wanted to believe that was my legal name. They kept trying to get me to tell them my real name. For the first 5 years in school, on the first day of every school year, I spent it in the principal's office for lying to the teachers.

My son's name is Alec. I don't think it is very hard to say, but everyone wants to call him Alex. I know there are not many Alec's around, but come on, it is not hard. His 3rd grade teacher never got it right!

My name is Jamie. I get so sick of being called Jaime ( hi me). I am a girl. I can understand if it is on the phone, but if you see me first and then say it wrong it annoys me.

People constantly mispronounce DD #1's name:

It Alisa uh-leesa

They pronounce it uh-lissa

We always correct them.

I have the same name spelled the same way! I've had people call me Alissa, Alisha, Aleesha, etc., mostly Alissa. I've gotten so used to it that I look when say Alisa or Alissa. I used to hate the name Alissa when I was little. ;)

My name is Katie (K-T) and really isnt that hard to pronounce but people often times screw up my friends names...

Antigone= Ann-tig (like twig without the w)-uh -knee
and...
another friends last name is
Hochadel= Hoe-ha-dl (like dull)

My name is Shari (with a short a sound) and most people get it wrong. I've been called Sherry, Shawry, and Cherry on a daily basis. I don't even bother correcting people anymore.

My last name is 4, yes only 4, letters and is constantly mispronounced, and misspelled. I almost always have to spell it for people.

People also mispronounce my first name, but since the mispronounciation is actually prettier, I don't mind.

What I have always wondered whenever I see your posts is how do you say your user name? Do you have a child named Rhanditre? I think I'm not reading something right :teeth:.

hee...hee! Good question! I have one child named Rhandi (DD10) and one child named Tre' (DS12)! Just thought I'd combine to make one big confusing word!!!!!! :teeth:

People mispronounce my last name all the time. It's not hard to pronounce, and it's not that uncommon. It sounds just like it looks. But there's another last name with different letters on the end, and people always want to give me that name for some reaosn. :confused3

My maiden name was Amy Phillips. I never understood why people got all bent out of shape when someone mispronounced their names, but that's because it never happened to me. I'd be more understanding if my name were uncommon or didn't sound like it looked, but I really don't get why people can't just read.

A-ha! Thanks for the explanation. I thought Rhanditre was, um, interesting :teeth:. I could figure out the Rhandi part, but then the last part always got me. Is Tre' his whole name, and is it pronounced like "tray"?

It is pronounced like "tray" and it is not his given name...just a nickname. He is III, so we needed a nickname in order to keep from confusing him with Grandpa and Daddy! My husband came up with the spelling, I wasn't too keen on it at first, but it has grown on me. We have seen a couple of other "Tre's" in the past few years......

My DD's name is Brianne. "BREE-ANN"
She is always called Brianna. "BREE-AWNNA"

I think the reason she started going by Bree is she was sick of correcting everyone! :earsgirl:

P.S. I always thought Alissa was pronounced "ALL-LISSA" - sorry

My first name is Jocelyn pronounced joss-lyn. You don't know how many variations I get on my name. the most common one is Jacquelyn. I just don't know why people do that, nothing against anyone named that, but it drives me crazy! Ans the thing that drives me really nuts is when they assume my name is Jacquelyn and then shorten it and call me Jackie!

The other thing people like to do is say jozz-lyn, or joss-a-lyn. I had a teacher in 2nd grade who insisted on calling me jozz-lyn adn my mom went in adn told her that she was pronouncing it wrong and she basically told my mom that she shouldn't have named me that then because it was too hard for her to say right!

DD's name is pronounced the same way. Her spelling is Alysia.

My name is Johnie. Pronounced just like Johnny. I can't tell you the number of times I am called Joanie or Joanne

Our last name always gets mangled too. It's pretty simple if you ask me.

My first name is Suzette and I cannot tell you how many times I have been called Suzanne instead.

That's my middle name. Suprisingly no one ever gets it wrong. Though my mom didn't know how to spell it when she named me :rotfl:

Many people think there is a "W" in my last name, where it starts with "SCH". It's a germanic last name that sounds like shhhhhhh

My DH and I were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Scott Psycho at our wedding!!! Since then I've gotten sicko, ****zgo and more.

My DD is Alexa and always gets called Alexis.
