Mispronounced Names?

I have never run into anyone who has pronouced our last name correctly (with the exception of the italian cm who works in alfredo's in epcot). It is Marchese, which is pronounced Mar-kay-zee. People always pronounce it Mar-cheese, or Mar-Cheesey - we don't even bother correcting people anymore, we answer to anything :goodvibes .

One of my dearest friends last name is Marchese and I lovingly call him for the last 30 years Marcheesey.

My name is Cheryl. People always call me Shirley. And I can't begin to count how many times it's been misspelled!

My first name is Sandra, but everyone thinks is pronounced Sondra.

DS's name is Brendan. EVERYONE calls him Brandon and they never spell it right. I always correct people, but he's tired of it and doesn't bother anymore.

A lot of people butcher my name. It's Dania but I've been called everything under the sun including the bad word. Most of the time I'll just go with the flow and let it slide, but sometimes I correct them. For anyone whose curious, it's pronounced Dane yah.

My name is Kara, people call me carol or karen. I've also been called "cat" many times. :confused3

My last name is a first name & when I'm asked my last name & I tell them, people say "no, your last name." or "is that your last name?". I've been telling people recently my last name & then follow by "yes, that's my last name."

My married name is Swedish and it is pronouced exactly like it is spelled but, it still gets mangled, epecially by telemarkers...Before the "Do not call list" and since we do not have caller ID - if my name is misprounouced or if someone hesitates over it - that's a good sign it's a telemarketer...So, if it gets mangled I can honestly say - "nope, sorry there's no one here by that name..."

I can understand getting miffed if they totally call you the wrong name (e.g. Melissa for Melinda, Julie for Judy), but sometimes names actually are commonly pronounced 2 ways, like Ian. And with somewhat odd names, like Alisa, you can't really blame people for not knowing if it sounds like "Alissa" or "Lisa" because it looks like both of those common names.

I remember years ago I worked at a skating rink, and this mother got a little huffy when I pronounced her son Geoffrey's name as "Jeffrey". I was quickly corrected that it was pronounced "Joffrey". Why would someone in America (where Geoffrey is normally pronounced "Jeffrey") even give the kid that name and expect people to just know how to say it?? It's just asking for a lifetime of frustration when you name your kid something that is oddly spelled or that is pronouncable in more than one way.

my first name being donya (dahn-yuh), i've been called EVERYTHING but-deena, dana, donna (this is the most common one), diana-i'm used to it. heck even my own grandmother can't get it right-i'll call her and she'll call me by everyone else's names (she's always done this) first, lol, "patricia (my mom), belinda (my aunt), felicia (one of her sisters' daughters)-i, i mean, donya!" my poor daughter has it almost as bad: i spelled her name "eryn" instead of "erin" and my mother can never remember how to spell it, lol, when she was 2, my mom gets her two personalized storybooks for christmas and all the way through her name is spelled "erinn" LMAO!

My first name is Marion. Yes it's spelled the man's way, but I am a woman. I have been called Marianne, Mary Jane, Marilyn, Marlene.

I especially love when I get mail to Mr. Marion -----. It's even funnier when my dh, Mike, gets mail for Ms. Michelle ------. :teeth:

I get called Lora and Lara and Laira (which I'd answer to) as well as Lori and Laurie (which I don't answer to). My name is Laura. Say it with me: LAW-rah.

People have asked me if they can call me Laurie as a nickname, and seem to be offended when I tell them no, it's Laura. I don't like the name Laurie, and to my ears it just doesn't register as my name. I actually get kinda huffy when people call me Laurie when they know my name (like a couple of DH's friends). I know, they're trying to be nice and give me a cute little "pet" name, but I already have nicknames that my family have called me: Lo and Lorelei.

We get alot of people who kid around with our name. My dh is a sergeant for the NYPD, for a few years he taught the new recruits at the police academy. His students used to call him "Mar-crazy" because of his tough teaching style in the classroom.

Mine is Marisa, I've been called Marsha, Melissa, Marseeya, Marchee.

My nickname is Mari, with the I sounding like a long E.

Once someone called me Marisa, Piss-a, at least he got my first name right.

Oh yeah. All the time! My last name is very simple...just 6 letters, but people inevitability add or subtract at least one letter. Oh, and you say it exactly the way it is spelled....sigh!

While Caitlin is a common name now, when I was growing up, it wasn't.

Ive been called Cat-Lyn, Katielyn, Catalina, Katrina, etc...

Just to mix it up a bit, I usually go by Katie. I never thought anything of it until I was in high school and I had a teacher ask why I go by Katie with a "K", not a "C". Because thats how my parents taught me to spell my name??? :confused3

My first name is Lisabeth and is pronounced Lisbet but people always call me Lisa Beth. I gave up and go by Lisa but really prefer Lisbet

What I have always wondered whenever I see your posts is how do you say your user name? Do you have a child named Rhanditre? I think I'm not reading something right :teeth:.
