mirror image writing

Im a lefty born in May, and I can mirror write. Sometime I will write right to left just for the fun of it. I can also write with both hands. but to write with my right hand I have to be writing with the left hand at the same time for the right hand to follow along.

My kids can mirror write a little. I dont see a problem with it.

this is a note to leftys when I write I do not turn my hand around like a lot of leftys. I was taught to turn my paper sideways a bit. I love to write and people say I have nice handwriting.

Also as the saying goes 'Left handed people are in thier right minds'

According to my child development course work, this is a perfectly normal phase of development. No worries.

I can write (in cursive) mirror-image. It amazes people when I do it. I don't have to practice it; I can write anything that anyone asks me to. Some people thought that I had practiced writing my own name over and over, and that was the only reason I could do it, but that's not the case. lol

I don't remember doing it when I was young, though. I think I realized that I could do it when I was older, maybe even a teenager.

I had bad penmanship when I was young (elementary school), but once I hit junior high, I decided that I wanted to write "nicely", so I made myself do that. lol

I should mention that I am left-handed, but I'm also ambidextrous in many things, especially when it comes to writing.

Please let us know what the OT says. I'm curious about what writing in this way signifies to the medical profession.

Personally I just think it signifies that those of us who can do it, are able to use parts of our brains that maybe others can't or don't. :upsidedow

I had a friend in High School who could do that. Very cool. She was ambidextrous, too.

I used to write backwards and upside-down (cursive and printing) for the heck of it in school. However, I never did it "without thinking".

Interesting. DS5 mirror writes, too. I haven't really noticed that he favors one hand over the other. He writes, draws, eats, etc. with both. It would be pretty interesting if he turned out to be a lefty.

Almost half of my 4 year old class mirror writes their name. I wouldn't worry about it now. Just keep enforcing their writing skills and keep writing their words so they can copy them. They'll get it.

I saw an adult woman on TV once who could write normally with one hand and mirror write with the other - at the same time! That was pretty cool to see. She wasn't Dyslexic, she was ambidextrous.

I can do that, but I'm not ambidextrous (though I tried to be when I broke my right arm!)

I can do that too, and I thought that was normal! :lmao: And for the record I'm a righty :confused3
