Several weeks ago I posted a thread about a friend of my DD's that was seriously injured in a car accident.
He suffered a serious head injury due to falling off the hood of a car and being run over. He had several surgeries to remove part of his brain that was damaged and well as to stop the bleeding in his brain. At one point, they had to stop operating. They gathered his family together with a priest to talk about taking him off of life support.
During this talk, he started to breathe a very little on his own. The family chose to continue with the support. He later suffered a stroke on the right side of his brain.
I'm very happy to say that the young man was released from the hospital two weeks ago! Even with everything that was wrong, he has no cognitive delays, is able to breathe on his own, walks, talks...and does everything for himself. He does suffer from headaches but was told that they should go away when the skull bone that was removed (it's in his abdomen right now) is replaced. That surgery will be in a few months. He said that his stomach hurts to cough and sneeze because of the bone being in there. He also has to wear a helmet to protect his brain until the bone is replaced.
The doctors have told him many times that there is no explanation for why he is alive let alone fully able to function on his own.
There are still some questions as to how the accident happened (he only remembers sitting on the car talking with a friend when the girl driving took off) but those will come out in the insurance investigation.
His family and friends are very grateful to everyone that offered their prayers and support!
Thank You!
