Why do some parents insist on driving while their kids trick or treat? Park your car and WALK with them!!!! I am sure there are certain reasons for some people with disabilities, etc. to drive behind their kids but really for most people - why?

I feel better now....vent over! :)

Happy Halloween Everyone!!!! :) :) :)

Yes...let me clarify. I am talking about a neighborhood situation with lots of houses close together on suburban streets with sidewalks. I just can't really see much of a reason for it and I do agree it seems more dangerous.

Hmm....I'm assuming you mean drive at a snail's pace behind them or something...We always drove everywhere for trick-or-treating. I'm from a rural area though, and there aren't houses close enough together to walk between (VERY sad, I would have loved to have had that experience) so driving was the only option. Dad stayed home and handed out candy and mom drove me from house to house. We definitely only went to the homes of people we knew well. Frequently older people who just liked seeing kids and didn't necessarily have candy, which was a nice experience. I still remember one cute little old man who gave me $1 every year.

I am assuming that you are talking about folks in a neighborhood setting who have the kids get out and go door to door and they drive from house to house. I HATE that and it just is a extra hazard on a night that should be lots of fun for the lil ones!

Wow I just looked back at my post-sorry for the tangent. I went a little TOO fary down memory lane.

We have caravans of riding lawn mowers pulling wagons:rolleyes: . I make my kids walk -- they get tired out faster and come home sooner!

You know..if it is really cold or rainy, I can go along with the driving. ( or, if as stated, there is a handicap involved). It is beautiful here tonight! Almost 60 degrees and clear and a perfect night for being out....Walking! We still have 1 or 2 driving their kids  Mine are walking. I just did 1/2 the neighborhood, and DH is out now doing the other half. No wonder we Americans can be seen as lazy sometimes!

In my neighborhood people who are driving are generally the people who are bringing kids in from other areas. They have nowhere to park, so they drive very s-l-o-w-l-y while the gang of kids go door to door.

Aside from them, it may be people whose kids don't want them going with them, so they drive along behind watching.

People do this every year on the street I live on! I also just assumed it was because there is no place to park because of people who got their earlier and parked to walk their kids? I saw a lot of people moving at a snails pace tonight behind their kids.

I just got the biggest laugh picturing a long line of lawnmowers headed down the street. I have never seen anything like that so the thought of it was pretty funny.

Well it's raining here and we walked. I have a neighbor who's in a wheelchair and he was out being pushed by his dad, walking.

My Dd went out tonight with her friend and this is the first year she went without a parent. My DH was going to tag along ...kinda out of site...he said I'll drive slowly behind them..they won't even know I'm there. 2 older DD's pointed out that he would look like a stalker and someone might call the police!
Needless to say, he didn't go. She had my cell phone and we made her call us every 1/2 hour. She actually called us to pick her up earlier then we gave her for a coming home time. They went to a haunted house in the neighborhood and I think it freaked her out a bit.

Drives me nuts, too!
Here it's mostly people from the other neighborhood importing their kids....we're one of the nicer neighborhoods around so TONS of people drive over here to trick-or-treat.

Can I add my vents?
Next year I will have a sign: NO costume, NO candy.
What is it with these TEENAGERS coming up with their pillowcases. Don't even bother to put on a funny hat or even say "Trick or Treat!" They just shove their pillowcase in your face. Um...not again. (In our city, trick-or-treating is officially limited to 12 and under. While I disagree with that, I do think you should make an effort at the holiday if you're going to participate.)

This was a new one for me:
Teenage moms (16 or 17 TOPS!) trick-or-treating holding their newborns. Yeah, as if the 4-week-old is gonna eat the candy. I'm sorry, but I think you stop being a kid the moment you have one, and should leave the festivities to the little ones.
Did I dress up my kids when they were babies? You betcha! But we took pictures, went to the pumpkin patch, that's it. I did not go door-to-door begging for candy for a newborn.

I hear what you're saying Katie. I couldn't believe the number of moms holding their babies that just held their bucket out for me to drop in candy. No Happy Halloween or even a Thank You.:(
