Minnie Marathon - Official Check-in

I'm registered for the 5K (my first I'm so excited) as a team with westcliffemom, then I will be cheering her on in the 15K.

I'd like to try for the Minnie-Goofy this year. 5K on Sat, 15K on Sun. But I'm bringing my mom and hoping to talk her into walking the one mile. If she'll go for it, then I'll do that with her, but DD14 may still do M-G.

Come join us on the weekly club threads, too! Martha...you might ask there about hip bursitis. I know there's been a couple folks with hip issues in the past.

Kim...DD14 ran last year and is planning to run again this year.

Tiff...right now, we're coming in Fri, leaving Sun, but that could change if DD14's band concert is scheduled that weekend again.

Lunch meet sounds like a good possibility. How did the Earl of Sandwich workout last year?
 
I'm planning on doing the 15K. I hope to make reservations soon. Where is everyone staying?
How does transportation work for this race? I've read reports from last year that said there were transportaion issues (for the expo and the day of the race) Will I need to rent a car for the weekend?
 

Last year they had no transportation-to the expo or to the race start. The race is just not big enough to justify it. We rented a car for a couple of days & picked it up from Swan/Dolphin so we could take the buses there to get it. It worked out great. You could also take a taxi.

Mel, DD was glad to hear she wouldn't be alone. What day did you plan to meet?

We are staying at All Star Music, I have a car rented so if any else is staying at All Star Music and needs a ride they can hitch a ride with me and DD. I only have a compact so I should have room for at least 2 maybe 3.

I'm staying at POP - I'm local, but decided I'd prefer to stay on site.

I still haven't "officially" registered - still waiting to hear if my friend is joining me.

Just keep me informed as to any meets. Are we doing shirts? If so, is there a link or something to get one?

Mr. blueroses and I are staying at the Dolphin. We're arriving at 7:30am Friday morning (taking the red-eye, which is my favorite way to fly to the East coast) and leaving the morning of Tuesday the 8th. We aren't renting a car unless it looks like getting a cab to the beginning of the race will be a problem. If anyone else is staying in the Epcot resorts, I'd be interested in meeting up in the morning.

mishoe, it took me a good 3 minutes to figure out you meant tshirts! I was wondering what the heck the autocensor was trying to protect us from!

This is what they did for the Race for the Taste this year. I have e-mailed finding out which hotel is the "host hotel". On the right hand side of the Minnie Marathon page - on disney wide world of sports web-site there is a link , "book a package". This is a link to Anthony Travel who is offering All Star Sports for $89 a night and Port Orleans for $115 - you can book just the hotel (no theme park tickets if you wish). For the Race for the Taste one of these was the "official hotel".

Hi All!

I already have hotel reservations for Minnie (4 nights at Pop and 4 at POR) but I haven't officially registered yet. A co-worker is supposed to come with me, and she had some unexpected surgery last Monday. I haven't talked to her yet, so I am not sure if the surgery will change her plans. But I am definitely planning on being there.....just need to pick up my pace a little bit!!

I haven't seen any mention of shirts, but would be interested.

Tried to get out for a long walk today and ended up having to stop with a major blister, still quite painful but off to the drug store to see if I can find something for it.

I must be nuts. I have my traing schedule planned through Goofy 2008. I've got Minne in May, Covered Bridges Half in June and Phildadelphia Distance Run (13.1) in Sepember. I may throw in the Philadelphia Marathon in November, but that's tentative. I've discovered I need a goal to remain motivated. Goofy was such a blast (other than the lack of water between miles 14 and 18).
 
WISH Shirts - After all the compliments we got this weekend, I'm thinking we stay with teh same as we had. (Also thining I can only use so much lime green in my wardrobe. ;) ) Let me get my act together again, and I'lls ee about putting in another order. We'll need at least 24 to do it.
 
I think the official "host hotel" is the AKL. Right now I have reservations at the Polynesian and plan to rent a car. If you have a car you can drive to the Epcot parking lot on race morning and take a bus to the AK start.:cheer2:

hi, for those of you driving to the race, how early are you planning to be at epcot? will the buses to ak be waiting? i'm doing the race with dd12 for the first time (thanks for welcoming me on the minnie marathon wish thread, kim!) and i'm worried about getting her up on time!

RACE TRANSPORTATION

Bus transportation will be available to bring runners from the finish line at Epcot® back to the parking lot at Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park. If race participants would like to park at Epcot®, buses will be available starting at 4:45 a.m. to transport them to the start line at Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park. The last bus will leave for Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park from Epcot® at 5:45 a.m.
