Minnie Marathon - Official Check-in

:welcome: Eva! I think the 5k would be a good event for a beginner. Not to say that you could not get ready for the 15k in a little over 3 months, but it would probably be difficult. It is better to increase your mileage slowly rather than risk injury from trying to go too far too fast. Please join us on our weekly training thread and introduce yourself.

I have registered for the 15k and will see everyone in May!

Hi y'all!!!

One question for all of you....are you all athletic and sporty? I am trying to lose weight by walking and getting more active! This 5k is my goal and I know that it will keep me motivated! A trip to the WORLD will be my biggest MOTIVATOR!

I don't want to be in last place....but I know I can do it!

Thanks everyone for the welcome. Thanks, too, Heather for your insight. I was thinking along those same lines. Even at the point I'm at now, I know I can do the 5K, but it'd be a real boost to make a decent showing. (I'm not talking about leading the pack or anything like that.) I also figured that I could get ready for a 15K, but I risked injury and still maybe not finishing in time. Plus, an injury would hold me up from my long term goals. So, all this to say thanks for your imput, and I will make it over to the weekly training thread.

Welcome georgiagirl! Some of us are athletic and sporty, but I would say the majority are 'adult-onset' athletes. I got involved two years ago so that I would have an exercise goal to work toward. I've lost 30lbs over the last two years (only 15 more to go!). Come join us on the weekly club threads for tons of advice and support!

Ditto what Mel said. There are some super speedy, sporty ones in our group. But a good majority are just everyday people who have decided to get healthier, support each other & have fun doing it. WDW is a great place for races, everyone is supportive. There are people of all shapes & sizes. Trust me, I have never been athletic & it is not intimidating there at all. You will have a ball & make some great friends.

BTW, I will be at the Minnie!!!!! I came home telling Rick I just had to do it. Luckily , I have a great supportive DH!

I can't wait to see everyone in 4 months. OMG, is that all it is?!

Ya more people. Can't wait. DD and I are working on our distances and hope to be ready by May with my extra 30 pds gone.

THing that worries me is we are doing the dining with our package...lots of eatting before we walk/jog the 15K. Oh well all that walking at the parks should take care of that.....I hope:confused3

Could someone post the link for the minnie marathon.

I can't seem to get it to come up..well the page comes up, but the text does not???

I will be running the Minnie is May. I just sent in my application yesterday. As far as men running it, DH did last year and he wasn't the only one. He isn't this year since DD's are coming with us so he's on babysitting duty.

I am so glad we'll be having another WISH meet real soon:cool1:

Hi everyone,
This is my first post to this page. I met some of you at the WDW Marathon and your gentle persuasion to join you in the Minnie Marathon worked. I have registered for the 15K event and am trying to talk my sister into joining me. She's reluctant to say the least.

I've been in rehab for 3 months with hip bursitis but I'm hoping it holds together for training. Ain't getting old just wonderful!?! Anyone else have experience with this problem?

My training begins this week. So far I've run 2 miles. Oh boy! It's a far cry from the half marathon distances I ran the last couple of years. Anyway, wish me luck! I'm gonna need it.

DD and I will be doing Minnie for the second year. I'm bring along my DMIL, but DD won't know it until she sees her at the airport when we arrive in Orlando.

I am considering the 5K along with the 15k.

Mel - I feel silly for asking, but how can I attach more than 1 pic in my sig? Saw you in front of YC/BC as we finished our Goofy.

Thanks.

msblrobs, DH decided not to come and DD and I are going together, will your DD's be running?

Martha, welcome!! Good luck with your training, unfortunatley I am a newbie so I can't offer any advise other then listen to your body... that is it my wisdom :rotfl2: But I am learning so much from everyone here.

Disneybelle, welcome, how old is your DD, mine is 14 and afraid she is going to be the only teenager there.

I really should get off these boards and get my laundry :laundy: done. Keep hoping it just disappears...

Have a good one!!!!

MelI'm in for the 5K and the 15K! I think we should name it the "Daisy Challenge" ! Since it's supposed to be a women's weekend...:lmao: Maybe Sunny can come up with a clippie for us!! Oh, and Mel, where are you hiding those 15 pounds??!!! You look GREAT!!
Kim, and everyone else...PLEASE don't plan on doing the parks the whole day before the Minnie! I know you want to get your money's worth, but it will really affect you on the 15K!
:welcome: MiniGirl, ggeorgiagirl, and RedDragon/Martha! Be sure to check out the weekly training thread, also. There are all types over there..newbies to seasoned veterans who help us with all kinds of questions!!
Sara,Tiffj, Heather, See ya there!! A WISH meet "fix" will definitely be needed by then!!:goodvibes
Colleen,It was GREAT to meet you Friday! Are you in for this? Hope so!!:thumbsup2 :cool1: Anne

Disneybelle, you posted while I was composing my post. It will be so GREAT to see you at Minnie!! Looks like WISH team will have another blowout showing!! :goodvibes Anne

Hockeychic - DD is 12 this go round...she just made the 11 year cut-off last year. We'll ve making this an annual girls weekend tradition. No boys allowed!

Maybe I'll be less shy meeting up with WISHers at Minnie. DH and I did Goofy and saw so many!

Yeah!! This is going to be so much fun. Heather, Colleen, Mel, Cam, Rhonda, Sara, Anne (and those are just off the top of my head) it will be great seeing us old timers again & meeting all the new WISHers too! Got to get planning.

What days is everyone going to be there? I'm trying to decide if I'm leaving Monday or maybe staying till Tuesday. I guess that will depend on DH and what flights I can get too.

Tiffany, We'll be driving in on Friday for the Expo and leaving on Monday...I think!!:goodvibes

We'll be there until the following weekend.

Kim - My DD's are 5 & 9 and will not be running. They will be out there cheering loud for the WISH team though:cool1:  :cheer2:

Anne - A WISH meet definitely sounds good. We won't be getting in MCO until late-afternoon Saturday, so I'll be cutting it close. Perhaps a post-Minnie lunch meet could work?

Wow what a group we are forming.... and we are awesome.

We are arriving Thursday morning...first flight in....wahoooo and leaving Monday again first flight out....yuck.....lol

We're coming in the 4th, and staying through that next week. I'll probably have to take it easy for a couple days after doing the 5K & 15K.
