Minnie Marathon 2007 -- WISH Roster (see post 1 for WISH Meets Info!)

I'm booked at the Polynesian May 4th - May 8th, and I do plan on having a car. I arrive around 11:45 a.m. Friday if anyone needs a lift from the airport to Disney! I'm also planning on hitting the expo Friday afternoon and would be glad to drive anyone over.:)

I need to take a good look at the course map. I like to visualize where I might be when I'm slaving away on the TM.;) Do we get a packet mailed to us as the race gets closer??

I printed out the race map for the 15k, so I could take it with me to peruse over as I'm riding the bus this week @ WDW. I thought it would help if I saw the terrain. But, as I look at the map here at home, I'm like "What was I thinking!" It just looks so far! But of course, that's what training is for, right?

I think when I registered, it said we would be getting emails or something with more info as it got closer.

Yaaaaaa, so glad to hear you are joinning us.

I will also be there those dates where are you staying???

Kim

I have no idea where I am going to stay. I just saw a $69 flight for Monday open up for me and I jumped on it. Now I am feeling very guilty! Should I really be spending any extra $$$ while Chad is out of work? I think I will get over it! ;)

Anyway, I will call Disney and see if there is a AAA or code or whatnot for All Star or Pop. I'd like to stay at Pop again, but I'll take whatever is cheap.

And since the guilt kicked in, I am leaning towards no car rental. Shoot, since I am going, that is one small consession I can make, right?!

DD and I are staying at Music so if you stay there and need a ride to the race DD and I will have a car rental so you can jump aboard with us. The rest of the time we are there we are at the parks...:woohoo: :woohoo: .

Can we go now.....how about now.....

Do they have Live Updates for the Minne? :confused3

YAY, Kristi!!!
Judy -- I am not sure about live updates. I don't think they had them last year, but I think the event is going to be so much larger and more polished this year. :thumbsup2
Frankly, my biggest hope is that the official race shirt is something I can wear. Last year it was a black singlet and it was wayyyy too small, even though it was an XL. Bummer. Keeping fingers crossed for more generous sizing, non-black, non-singlet official shirt. Who's with me on this?

I kind of liked the top from last year. Although, I did convince the guy giving me the shirt to give me a bigger size!

Guess what guys? I got 'permission' from Dad for Mom to come with me!
I just finished booking her flight for her! :yay:

We plan on doing both the 5k & 15k. Last year Mom thought the 5k medal was nicer than the 15k. And shoot, if we are going to be there, why not do both races? :woohoo:

Where is the Minnie '08 clippie? I cannot find it to save my life!

Kristi- :cool1:  :dance3: I'm so glad you are coming!! I checked on AAA for the values & they had POP avail for $84/night. I havent decided about doing the 5k yet. I might just to get the medal & t shirt.

Cam-I so agree with you about the shirts. Even if it fit, who the heck thought of black for running in in southern FL?:confused3 I liked the volunteers shirts.

I've somewhat started training this week. Eating has definately gotten better. Really hitting it next week ::yes::

YAY, Tiff! Congrats on getting the training under way! Can't wait to hear how it is going! :cool1:  :woohoo:

Hello! I'm new to the WISH boards. I just signed up for Minnie in May and Goofy in 08. My mom and I are doing the 5K together and then I'm up for the 15K.

I read on the board that the only hotel they have bus transportation to the race is from Animal Kingdom? I booked POR through Anthony Travel hoping they would have a bus from there too. Anyone know the full details?

Leana -- I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your transportation question, but I wanted to say :welcome: Looking forward to hearing about your training.

Welcome cnd-gal! No transportation from POR. I booked thru Anthony Travel last year & again this year staying at POR. I love it there! We may rent a car for a day or 2 or get a taxi, not sure (my mom is doing the race with me)

Speaking of, I have my hotel booked :cool1: :yay:

Hey CDN GAL, just wanted to welcome my fellow Canadian. DD 14 and I will be going to the 15K as well.

I am not 100% sure but I think the only resort that has transportation to the race is from AKL or am I confusing it with the Marathon weekend.

Ok, guys, I'm really, really thinking about doing this. Time wise, I'm not overly concerned as I did my first 1/2 m in Oct and did a sub 15 pace - without really training at all. But, I don't want to get there & get swept, don't have a ton of money to put into the weekend due to medical bills from DH recent heart attack. So, I have some questions.....

1. To do this, do I have to buy park tickets? I wouldn't be able to fly in until near midnight Thursday & would have to leave right after on Sunday, so I just don't see that I would have park time - more sleep time/down time would be desireable! I'm not good at theme park crowds. Plus, if I come I will likely do the 5K as well, maybe talking one of my DNieces in FL to do it with me. Besides, Orlando has MUCH better shopping that NM, and I have some fav stores I would NEED to visit!

2. If you don't stay on site, is there parking? I would likely be onsite, but....

3. How 'on time' are the sweepers? Is there a little bit of leeway? In other words, if my rebuilt ankle starts killing me & I have to slow down for a bit, would I get swept even though I could finish under pace? Or would I need to build a cushion in early on in case I have to stop to put on my brace or slow down for a short bit to give it some TLC?

TIA for the help.

1. You do not have to buy park tickets. You do not need park tickets to participate in the races. There are a number of us who are going and do not plan to go to the parks.

2. There is parking even if you stay off-site. You can park at AK at the race start and then take the bus back to AK from Epcot. Or, you can park at Epcot and take the bus to the start at AK.

3. I don't have experience with the Minnie, but for the marathon the sweepers are basically on-time. If you have not reached the sweep points by the time cut-off, you will not be allowed to continue. I do not know where the sweep points are for the Minnie, but I am hoping that information is provided in the packet of information to be sent to us before the race.
