Minnie Complaint - OMG, now I've done it....

Wow, those were not very nice comments. I would have been totally put out if I had heard her. I agree, it is all about encouraging people, not discouraging them. :sad2:

Too bad about the Minnie. I was thinking that could be my next goal after the RFTT, but I'm not too sure I'd be up for a half marathon.

And I've been averaging in the 12 minute pace range and I definitely don't feel "leisurely" while I'm out there. :lmao:

Carrie - Thanks for posting the sponge. I guess it's just what you said, a sponge with a grommet. What a clever idea. Did it bug you being on your wrist??

For those inquiring minds:

I noticed on Disney's site they already have the Inline Marathon Weekend listed for 08. It is Sunday May 4, 2008(which was Minnie Weekends date). This year it was April 1, 2007.

I would guess whatever race that replaces Minnie will have to be at the end of April or mid May. Getting closer to Summer would make a 1/2 tough. Maybe they will move the new race to the old Inline Marathon weekend date of April 6(1st weekend in April)???

We will just have to wait and see:confused3

That would be very good for me!

I had to really fudge that Friday & Monday off from work for the Minnie. We are absolutely not supposed to take time off during the May ratings period. Moving it into April would be awesome for me. Actually, as long as it's not Feb, May or Nov - I am happy!

I just hope they do some type of race next spring! I have only completed 2 races, but I already feel the addiction! :)

Becky

Becky, I am with you:)

Living in the mountains at 6400', I look for any reason to get out of the snow and have an early spring. My quess it won't be Feb or Nov as too close to the marathon weekend. Summer way too hot! I think it will be early April. Hope they let us know soon.

Jen - The coil stretch a little more than the our trial version, but I slid it further up on my arm and it was fine. Much easier than carrying it fo r9 miles. I kept it on my belt until I needed it. HAd I remebered my water clips, it could have just stayed around my water bottle.

Robert - I heard they were trying to minimize the number of weekends with roads closed. Ya' think they might just put us with the inline racers?

If not, I'm out of luck. :( (Weekend nbefore is MILs b-day  and after is MOther's day.)

Carrie: I could beleive they want to minimize closures but I don't think it will be the same weekend. They will want the new race to have its own whole weekend and expo.

I think they will move it into April.

What will happen to the Go Red for Women? I know a lot of people did the double. The 5K'ers also got the cool Minnie bags. Same fate as the Komen?

Last week I emailed them asking about the date for the 2008 event. This was the response I got...

I am sorry but it is still early to say, but the event may not be
available next year as "Disney's Minnie Marathon weekend". New ideas are
currenly being studied and as soon as we have more details they will be
posted at www.disneyworldsports.comWe will try to keep the same weekend which is one week prior to Mother's Day. Stay tuned.[/I]

I can't believe they would run the new running race(1/2 marathon) on the same day as the Inline 1/2 & Full. Overlapping expos, courses, volunteers, would make this very logistically challenging. I think they will have to have it on another weekend.

That said, you never know with Disney. Look at all the changes already with ToT:confused3

hmmmmm....glad i popped over here. i'm very SAD to hear the Minnie is retiring, i was hoping to go in a couple years I'm also very bummed that it could be another 1/2 marathon -- only b/c i was looking forward to going with my Mom and i don't think her hip/back/tendonitis will allow for another 13 mile event in her future. I thought the variety in distance was a big positive.

princesses glisten??!! :lmao:

what about fit Disney gals? Mrs. Incredible (why can't i think of her name?)......

Oh nooooo! I'm really bummed. I was so looking forward to doing the Minnie next year. I'm not a big Princess fan, so I don't know if it's worth the extra trip down. Plus I'm not real thrilled with it possibly being a half marathon. I kind of liked the idea of it being a 15k. Something different. Oh well, guess I'll have to just wait & see what happens.

MOli - It's Helen. After the 06 marathon, I got a link of her for my watch. (She went out of her way to high 5 me during the race adn I needed to sommemorate that). ANyway, I ask fro Mrs. I adn teh CM referred to her as Helen. I feel better now knowing i'm not the only one who couldn't remeber her name. ;) NOw, would Helen Glisten? I thinkg she's too tought for that. She would either perspire or just down right sweat!

Karen - They'll almost have to have other distances. Hoping for something good. I'm witht you, though. I liked the 15K. I don't like priincesses either, but I think I'd go for the female WISHer time! :teeth:

I thought I would chime in, in case the "powers that be" happen to tune in here. I don't like the princesses either, I really liked the Minnie Marathon (my first event) and would love to make it an annual event for my family. My DM was planning on doint the 5K next year. It just won't be the same with princesses! I guess I'm just not a princess girl.

Carrie - I guess any reason to spend time with WISH Buddies & at WDW, can't be bad.

Ooohhhhh! I've been gone for a few weeks so I'm a little late responding to this thread but I feel the need/calling/desire/whatever to put my .02 in and beat this dead horse some more. :teeth:

Thanks, Carrie, for letting the director know about the insulting comments. I'm one of those pooh-sized, 13-15 minute mile "runners" and had I participated in the race and heard those comments I would have been really disappointed as well. I'm sure she was just saying these in jest but it's comments like these that discourage, not encourage people.

I can only assume that she is equating pooh-sized with being unfit. Usually by the time you get to a race like the Minnie/half/marathon, you've put in a great amount of training, sweat, patience and plain hard work. I'm definitely not be as fit as I would like to be at this point but I'm a whole lot more fit than I was this time last year. And, I may still be unfit by many standards but at least I have the courage to get off the couch and particpate in events like this. I just love our WISH slogan! :thumbsup2 I also can't help but think that other pooh-sized or inactive people look at us and think that if I can do it, then maybe they can as well. This was the type of thinking that got me started in all of this.

Ok, off my soap box! :upsidedow

Congratulations to all of our Disney WISHers who have the courage to get out there and get 'r' done. :cheer2:
