Hey,

Our first real snowstorm of the winter is expected tonight! At least the first real one for SE Min.

Precip expected is 5", but so far only cold rain coming down!

Anyone else here in MN seeing any snow?

I'm in Otsego, by Elk River, and it's snowing like crazy right now. It has not snowed like this yet this season! Big wet flakes, and tons of them. I heard 6-10 inches here by tomorrow. YUCK!

Erika

Hi Erika,

Get that camera and take some good shots!

It's so dreary down here...wish we had a little bit of snow showing up here.

Hope you have a snowblower and I bet most school kids are excited at the prospect of no school tomorrow, LOL

herc.

Yeah! I'd like to see some pictures of that too! LOL!

I don't even have rain! The kids and I SO want to have a sleep-in morning too!:(

I'm with the pics............I'd so love to see pics of the snow.................;)

I'm in Richfield and its been snowing like crazy for most of the day!! Earlier we had the larger flakes and then it calmed down and bit and now we have smaller flakes. Total we've had about 3 inches so far.......
My mom and dad live up in Braham (about 50 miles north of Minneapolis) and have had nothing all day!!!!!

I had my dd at the ice arena for her lesson and when we left at 5:30 there were all these people from New Prague that were here for a hockey tournament. The kids were asking where they were going to eat and the parents kept saying, "Nowhere! We're gonna go HOME!"
Guess they didn't relish the idea of spending more time in our quiet little town...:o

Sounds like a hit or miss storm here!

Rain has stopped here and no snow yet.

Oh bananiem, you have a lovely little town! Those people prolly just wanted to get home cuz of the projected storm.

Prospects of no school and sleeping in??? Ha, not around here. Although I think the Elk River district is more likely to have a late start than the Osseo district was when we lived there. I actually hope they start on time, as I have a ton of work waiting for me at the office. You guys can all come to my house, it's plenty white out here. It's the first time I haven't been able to see the tips of the brown grass this season. DH and the kids just went out the shovel the ice rink, so we don't lose it under 10 inches of snow. They'll have a bunch more to shovel off tomorrow too.

Erika

Erika,

sounds like all the snow is centered in your area!

Good luck with the shoveling.

herc.

They have now moved onto the driveway and sidewalk LOL. Better to shovel 5 inches twice, than 10 inches at once!

Erika

OK, so I was wrong. At 5:15 Elk River was listed as 2 hours late. By 7 am, it was closed!! My kids of course, are ecstatic, I am not so overjoyed LOL. We live on a cul de sac, which for some odd reason, they have chosen now to plow yet. Everyone else is getting out, but we have a foot of snow in our street and we are stuck!

Erika

Hey erika,

No School there! Why are culdesacs always the last to be plowed!

Well, our schools are two hours delayed here and for what reason, I don't know, because we didin't receive ANY SNOW!

Forecastings still claimin 8" by eveing coming out of Kansas, LOL.

We'll see.

Where exactly are you Herc, that you got no snow??? Did you get ice or anything? Odd for them to delay school. 8:45 and they still haven't touched are street yet. Dh called from 94, said it's nasty, said it's washboard ice, and very dangerous. Sounds like fun!

Erika

Well, my kids were hoping for a snow day but I said yeah right! In the Anoka-Henn school district no way! We have at least 8 inches in Andover and it is still coming down. Funny thing is we are only 20 minutes from Elk River and they have no school. But the A-H district is HUGE so they would be shutting down half of the twin cites if they did. Happy Snowy Day.

Hi Gretel,

8" and no school. That's not fair!

Jeez, you're making us looks like wimps down here.

herc.

Now schools are totaly closed here for the day, and not one flake to be seen, LOL.

Checking in...Here in Circle Pines/Blaine/Lino Lakes, my yard has 11 inches of snow, and yes, my kids had school today. They were bummed.

What I don't understand is why if we have those snow days built into the school calendar the school district doesn't use them. This is one where you could legitimately say it was worth it. The buses that came by were fish-tailing all over the residential streets. We are walkers and the elementary only plowed one path in, BEFORE the street plows came by, so we had to crawl over a 3 foot pile to get to the actual school path. Where my son has to wait to go in, they hadn't even plowed at all. DH thinks it's pride that they do this and I am beginning to agree.

Too much snow, and while the buses could get through, no way was it safe. AND walking, they didn't salt or sand anywhere near enough. Kids and parents were slipping and sliding all over the place.

Yes you are all a bunch of wimps!!! LOL

The plows have gotten the main roads, but our development was a nightmare this morning trying to get the kids to school.

Our back yard looks so cool with the trees covered in snow, I think I will take pictures too! We took a pic of our yard on Jan 12 with no snow in site, and now today whamO. We all new we were not going to escape MN winter without snow! My shiztu is having a party in the back yard, she loves jumping in the snow. She jumps in and then all you can see is her tail wagging!
