Minneapolis Area Information

Stillwater is a great town (I grew up there) but the commute to Minnetonka would not be fun, an hour each way probably, Hudson would be an hour and a half probably. They are on complete opposite sides of the metro area.

Honestly, my daughter did a volleyball camp in Plymouth last year and leaving at 7:30 right in rush hour from Hudson (we are right between exit 1 and 2) we zipped right thru both downtowns and it still only took us about 35 minutes. It slowed down right around the exit for 35W but the rest of the way I was going the speep limit straight thru. It took us longer getting home (45 min) ...we did this for a week. It took longer going via Bloomington. (dh said to go that way cuz of traffic, but it was better going straight up 94).

FTR..we LOVE Hudson!

Chanhassen and Chaska both were identified as top cities to live in from a magazine not too long ago. Your budget would find your a house in Chaska and/or Chanhassen and the commute to Minnetonka is short. You could also look out towards Waconia/Victoria which are growing communities and could give you more house for your money.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks, again. The offer is supposed to be coming, so hopefully we will be looking in the area soon!

Agree with the flight attendant PP who said it's a different cold in MN. I'm born and raised in Maine, no stranger to cold and certainly know appropriate gear/etc.

My inlaws live in MN and it's just a bare bones no holds barred different sort of cold. Cuts right to the bone, I swear. I was ready to go home one year at Christmas time when I walked out the door and my nose about froze shut.

On the plus side though, there is plenty to do indoors for those who chose not to be the outdoor eskimo type. Alot of downtown Mpls is connected by tunnels, indoor water parks, Mall of America has about any amusement you could want....

Summers though- absolutely beautiful there, that I will attest to! I told Dh all future trips to the inlaws will be in the summer!

It is just now starting to get hot! Summer is now here in Northern Minnesota and the air conditioner has been on for about 3 days now for the first time this summer and I am loving it. I do think the winters are REALLY cold but that is me and I was brought up in the UP of michigan and lived in Alaska for a short time. I don't know how this year will turn out though as this has been a wierd year with the temperatures. I don't have anything to add to much to the conversation other then I drive to Minneapolis all the time (at least a couple times a month) to go to the VA hospital for apointmengestfts and I don't think the traffic is all that bad at all other then well around 4 and such and then it isn't even that bad. I love the mall of america, I can never get bored with it. I def would move there if i could. I do like living in the bigger areas.
