Hey DISers, maybe you can help my sis in law:
She isgoing next month with her DH, DD, and another family. They need a minivan and are carpooling, splitting the cost. They will be in Orlando one week, including a weekend. Has anyone been able to get rates like this lately?

This is what I recommended to her:
Check on southwest.com under the rapid rewards rate codes for discounts & quotes
Invest in an entertainment book for the coupons

Thoughts?

Dollar had some offer recently. I think you needed to use American Express for $219/week. It is on their website.

Try kayak.com.

I have a minivan reserved in September for 8 days+ 2 hours for $329.84 (this includes taxes) with Thrifty that I found through this site. This is the MCO office which is off-site but does have a shuttle. I reserved this back at the beginning of June. I typically check the rates with this website every day or so and switch whenever a cheaper rate shows up (no CC info needed to reserve). I started out with a little known rental agency but lucked out and got Thirfty after a few weeks of "shopping." It ended up being about $20.00 more overall than the no-name but I feel more secure with a company that I've heard of so went with them.

There was a thread on here for Priceline around July 8th or so. People were getting Alamo and National for $19 a day plus taxes for later August. They can give that a try.

I used the OCVB code with Dollar, an 8 day rental came to $242 including tax and fees

ETA
check mousesavers.com for codes

Tell them to try bidding $19/day for a minivan on Priceline for their dates. I have seen several people that were successful at that price for late August/early September dates. I think the totals were about $235 for the week including taxes and fees.

DCGRUMPY ---- Thanks for the great code info!

I just changed my reservation with Thirfty over to Dollar and cut the cost by another $25. Total cost is now $305.00 for 8 days + 2 hours. The best part was that I was able to get it as a pick-up at the Grosvenor Resort (DH wants a limo from airport to ASMo resort) with a drop-off at the airport and now he won't have to get a taxi all the way back to MCO to retrieve the minivan!! Saves time and money!! :woohoo:

Just booked Dollar with KISS2 and got a minivan for the week of 9/9 - 9/15 for $251 including taxes. Yay!:cool1: :cool1:

Thank you all you smart code people!!!!!!!!!

I have noticed that Dollar and the code KISS2 work quite well for minivans. You get about $199 per week pre-tax.

This is exactly what I got for a weekly rental in early December. (Dollar + KISS2 code = $199.) I booked that and am now bidding on Priceline once a week to see if I can do better.

If you belong to Costco, you can also try going through their website and using their codes. Sometimes their code can be combined with other codes also.

Thanks for the great tips! I have passed them on to her and she is searching high and low for a deal. The cheapest I found for her was on dollar for 500 for teh week. She was hoping for less. Let's throw some pixie dust her way!

How do you enter the KISS2 code? When I check the rates on the Dollar website they do not give you an option to enter a specific code??? Thanks

On the home page click on the tab that says 'specials'

That took a while for me to figure out, too. Go to "specials" on the tabs near the top, click on it, and then the promo code box will appear.

I just reserved a minivan for a week for our trip to Disneyland in September through Dollar for a total of cost $241!:cool1:

I tried priceline for $20 a day but didn't win it, but am paying about $23 through Dollar, which is what I had planned to rebid later, actually was going to go up to $25.

I did click on the specials tab and didn't need to enter any other codes.
