minimum markup law

I live in Wisconsin and we have a minimum mark up law so we can't get some of the deals that Wal-mart is offering when you pre-order movies and books. I'm just wondering if any other state has this law too

I know in the State of Maryland that you can't sell gasoline for less than it cost to purchase. So we have no gas wars at the gas stations. They said that it could put small gas stations (that don't do auto repairs) out of business.

Never encounted this and Im in Wisconsin. Then again I dont usually preorder anything but linda castillo novels!

I think California has the same type of law, so they are missing out too. Most of the Walmart deals on books & DVD's are being matched by Amazon.com, and for some reason they are able to offer the deals to WI and CA residents.

"some reason" = WalMart has a physical presence in those states, but Amazon doesn't.

I think we in Wisconsin are one of the few states that have the law. Which means our Black Friday ads are not as good as the ones you will see across the border in Illinois and other states

I don't know if we have the law here in CA but I know I couldn't do the pre-order for $10 DVD recently on walmart.com but I had no problem doing it on target.com and by going thru aaa.com/target I was able to get them for $9 each (plus tax), shipped separately for free. I was even still able to order the new Star Trek movie that came out Tuesday on Monday. And it has already shipped and should be here in a day or so.

The rest of the DVDs will ship as they are available. I got HP, Night at the Museum, Angels & Demons, and G Force.
