We recently got a new to us 1999 Rockwood Freedom. No ac, but we plan to add it. Well see if it can accommodate a rooftop unit, but we are also open to a portable or window unit. We will be camping in Disney's Fort Wilderness next month. Is there a recommended minimum BTU for pups? We plan to be out at the parks or the pool during the day, and hope for comfortable sleeping at night.

As much as you can fit or afford! :D

If you can handle a roof mount RV type. They generally come in 13,500 and 15,000 for bigger TTs and 5ers. With all the canvas, I'd suggest at least a 13,500.

There are several old threads on here about how people have used portable A/C units and exhaust them through a connection in the canvas. Others have used small window types. Some permanently mounted in the hard part of the trailer wall, some "rigged" to sit on crates and direct the cool air inside.

I agree with Teamubr. A rooftop model as big as you can afford. By going next month, that puts you at the fort in August. While I don't have much experience with the WDW Area in August, I do have a little, and I can tell you, that it was HOT and HUMID and we were staying in a hotel. A Pop-up with Canvas is going to let a lot of humidity in and a lot of your cool air out. Of course some folks handle weather differently. My DW likes the house in the winter at 75 degrees, but in the summer if it gets any warmer then about 70 she freaks out... Go Figure. Me, on the other hand, I am more flexible. The biggest thing for me about the heat/humidity is making sure I am well hydrated and not always in the direct sun (more for avoiding sunburn then anything else). Of course YMMV depending upon your particular needs/tastes/desires.

There was a discussion here about an insulating blanket for for pop outs. They did primarily concern maintaining heat in winter but insulation works well at keeping cool in as well

And Pop-Up Gizmos (aka "Pugs"). http://www.popupgizmos.com/

Reflectix usually is put in the vertical space around the 3 sides of each bunk between the screen mesh and the zipped canvas cover. Pugs go on top on the outside of the bunks over the canvas.

If your pop-up is in a shady site, these may not be worth the expense. However if you will be camping in sunny open locations at times, they might be worth the investment. They weren't for me but this is how you deal with camping in a pop-up during sunny, hot times.

I've found that our old rooftop, original unit (dometic, maybe?) keeps it very cool at night so much so that my kids claim to be "frozen". During the day it does struggle a bit more to keep up. On our bunk ends, we use reflective space blankets I bought in amazon for a great price and bungee them in place. I'm a native Floridian and I can't imagine sleeping without a/c but there are plenty of tents here right now without air and people seem to get along just fine. You know your heat tolerance best.
