minimum amount to tip mousekeeping when going solo?

Nothing. Per Disney Housekeeping is NOT considered a tipped position.

Personally, I keep the do not disturb sign on the door the entire time & just get clean towels as needed. If you feel the need leave $5 on your last day when they make up the room for the next guests.

you do realize that most likely the person i leave $5 is not the same person that cleaned the previous days right?

and i like my bed to be made and towels to be picked up so i don't want to put the do not disturb sign on.

I agree with you. Why the heck would I want to be on vacation and come back to a room that the bed is all messed up? I don't care if it's value or top of the line deluxe there is a nice new feeling each time I re-enter that room. No one makes my bed at home I LOVE this little luxury.

Tipping vs Non-tipping is always a hot topic here. I don't get the passion one way or the other. I tip. I said that earlier. If you do though, leave it each morning before you leave as there is a very good chance, like you said that the CM is not the same one each day.

I just don't like the idea of a stranger being in my room with my stuff. I know 95% of the housekeeping staff is above board & trustworthy. But that 5% that is shady...I am not going to take my chances.

The mousekeeping is included in the cost of the room. Why would you tip???
Because:
It's not expected but these people work hard and make very little money. I remember when I used to do housekeeping (not at Disney) and tips were rare. When I did get them, I nearly cried I was so happy. So I enjoy doing that for other people now that I have the opportunity to do so. :)
I guess.

And from what I read here, if you don't tip, you are a meany. Or you must be having a bad day.

I guess Disney needs to post a minimum tip per person per night.

I tip because the extra couple of dollars per day means nothing to me on my expensive vacation but it means a lot to the person cleaning my room. It is a token of appreciation that is a mere drop in the bucket compared to how much I paid for the rest of my vacation.

No one said that.

If you don't want to tip, then don't tip. Your room will still be cleaned.

No, I was offered a hug. And the good wishes of feeling better. :lmao:

Actually, I haven't said if I tip or not, and if I do tip, how much.

The original question was, "what is the minimum?"

The minimum to tip is $0.

And yet, people here are saying that the minimum is something else.

And truly, if that is the case, Disney needs to let us in on the rules.

I think the issue here is the word minimum is relative.

The financial minimum is $0 - that is the least you can actually leave.

The personal minimum is relative. OP I would suggest deciding what you feel most comfortable leaving. If you feel $1 a day is stingy, then up it two. Do what makes you happy. :goodvibes

yeah i think i should clarify.
i want to leave a tip so $0 is not an option for the minimum amount.
all i really wanted was opinions of how much of a tip i should leave as a solo and tidy traveler, not whether i should leave a tip at all.

i was originally thinking $1 per day would be fine but then i did start to feel like that was a bit low so i was thinking $2 per day. (i can certainly afford $8 total)

i know most people are not "pigs" but i've witnessed that SOME are and that makes for way more work for mousekeeping and many times those "pigs" don't bother to leave a tip so i feel like even though i'm not said "pig" i should give them more of an incentive to not skimp on my room just cuz its not that messy.

I tip $2 per person per day, minimum $5. One or two people would equal $5, three people equals $6, four equals $8, etc.

I guess Disney needs to post a minimum tip per person per night.

They pay their housekeepers more than minimum wage and consider it a non-tipped position so why would they post it? If they consider it tipped, they could get away with paying them under minimum.

http://www.dol.gov/whd/state/tipped.htm

I'm a DVC member and never stay longer than 7 nights so the only included housekeeping is trash & towel on day 4. When I do a solo trip, I sometimes put the do not disturb sign out and don't even do that. My trip last month was 6 nights so I did get the trash & towel done, I left $5. Left $10 on checkout. I didn't leave a mess but I figured it would brighten someone's day.

Disney has stated on check in materials, that Housekeeping is NOT a tipped position. So the minimum is ZERO.

But many feel the need to tip. Those that tip say $1 per person per day tipped daily. And I do agree that if you are going to tip, do so each day.

hmm. I've never read that on check in materials. I'll have go check next month.

Wait staff are paid far less than minimum wage, and this is because they receive tips. Housekeeping staff make more than the minimum wage. Instead of tipping housekeeping increase your tips to those who don't even get minimum wage. That is my opinion. I am sure many here have a different opinion

i give a $5 per person tip at TS restaurants.
i'm only going to QS restaurants on my solo trip.

i also will not be having any luggage transported anywhere so there's another place no tip is needed for my solo trip.

as i said i feel that mousekeepers do deserve a tip as that is physically demanding work epseically if you have to lean rooms that are extremely messy on a daily basis.

I recently returned from a ten day trip to wdw. it was me, one of my brothers and one of my sisters, sort of a catch up holiday together. we each had our own rooms.

we each left house keeping a $2.oo tip per day. not because we had to but because they, in our eyes, deserved it. you may not see it that way but we do.
just because its not considered a tipped position doesn't mean you shouldn't tip. if you don't want to you don't have to but for us who do want to, so be it. in the scope of the cost of the vacation $20 was nothing but probably meant a lot to the housekeeper.

I will continue to tip them as it makes me happy. :)

.
just because its not considered a tipped position doesn't mean you shouldn't tip.

Housekeeping is one of the FEW positions that can actually accept a tip (w/o being a tipped position). Most other positions have to refuse the tips & if the guests insists are to turn it over to management or face termination.

To turn it around - just because you think some one deserves a tip, does not mean you SHOULD tip them.
