We are pretty sure that we are going to get a solid black miniature schnauzer tomorrow. We already have a 14 year old Maltese that's our baby. Emily (DD, 6) has been begging for awhile now that she wants another dog. Last week at the vet he said our current dog, Caycee, would be great with a puppy. After much searching this week we've found a puppy that we love. Anyone have a miniature schnauzer and want to offer any advice. We are also thinking of the name Karlee, it's German and goes well with Caycee I think. Any thoughts?

I have had them off and on over the years. I loved them but make sure you have a lot of time to train . They will outsmart you ! It is hard to believe how smart they are . They make great pets for kids, and you are used to brushing your pet since you have a Maltese . Go "Fur" it

Good Luck

I love my Miniature Schnauzer and I'm sure you'll love yours! She is great with our boys (they were 6 & 8 when we got her two years ago) and has been a really fun addition to our family.

They can be very overprotective/jealous/excitable so make sure you socialize her really well so you don't have problems with her scaring your dd's friends. Ours loves kids but she scares them because she is so intense! (the neighbor boy is a bit scared of her so he doesn't give her the attention she wants - it's took us a long time to get her so that instead of barking and jumping on him, she'll now sit and wait to be rewarded with his attention) She takes commands well from me, but doesn't really believe the kids are her boss especially if they act scared of her!

She also doesn't like to see me with kids smaller than my boys - so if you're planning more kids make sure the dog gets used to seeing you with babies!

Thanks for all the help, we brought her home today. Emily was so excited she was just giggling like crazy. We brought her home about 3:30pm and so far NO accidents. She's adjusting very well and really adores Emily (DD) and Caycee (our 1st dog), but Caycee seems to be a little annoyed. We keep loving and assuring Caycee, but keep in mind she's a very old lady and this fiesty little pup is aggravating I suppose. We hope that Caycee will warm up to her. Karlee keeps nipping at Caycee's tail and it's driving her crazy, she jumps up on the chair, where Karlee hasn't realized she could go yet. Karlee won't even walk on the tile or go up or down the steps into the den. It's so cute she just stands at the edge of carpet and looks at you like, "come and get me". I hope to post some pictures soon. Thanks again.
