Mini Review : Thoughts, Feelings, Advice

Our first 2 nights are at Yosemite Lodge. The last night is at Wawona Lodge. I'll need to see where Fish Camp is in comparison. 5 hours isn't bad at all! I am counting on 7 hrs with a couple stops.

My kids are much younger (8 and 6), but any must dos in Yosemite are most welcome!

Wawona looks like fun and we thought about them but I don't think they would sleep five.

Must do's include Yosemite Falls, Glacier Point, Mariposa Grove (if still open), Half Dome, Raft on the Merced especially this year, Tunnel View, I would say Mist Trail but your kids might be too young, Awahnee Hotel if you have time is ok, and there is a valley floor tour as well which is an open seated tram ride. I'm sure there are more things but this was off the top of my head.

My wife was thinking there must be a community of dancers that all go to the same studio or something. We've seen them do several routines as groups and even though I'm a 12 week beginner in my dance lessons I had a feeling as well. They seemed tight knit. It was really a pleasure to see young and old alike at all different skill levels just enjoying the big band sounds and each other. My wife lost several pounds and she really wanted to start dance lessons as one of her rewards for getting to a certain point. I made good on it and we haven't looked back. We have found a time and space where we can enjoy each others company outside of the children. The drive to and from and the 50 minutes we get with the instructor has been priceless. I highly recommend it. Plus even though I consider myself sort of young we are old souls at heart who enjoy Sinatra, Como, Ellington, Armstrong to name just a few.

A lot of us started at/still go to the same studio. Others jumped in at DL. We've had people start dating, get married, and have babies because they met dancing at DL! Totally agree with you about the dancing and even the commute being so worth it. DH often says this is one of the best and most fun things we've ever done together. Again, please let us know the next time you'll be at DL on a Saturday -- you and your wife will be most welcome!

I have said this before on this forum numerous times...

I have been fortunate to have traveled to all of the continents (except Antartica) and have seen many beautiful places on this awesome planet on which we live. I have traveled around North America extensively. Yosemite in California is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. From Yosemite Valley all the way up to Tuolomne Meadows and beyond, it is just stunning.

Thanks for the photos to remind me. I need to get back there!

I have been truly fortunate to have travelled clean around the world too via the Travel Channel and PBS.
Great way to see so much without needing to worry about vaccinations, not being multi lingual, no Montezumas revenge (Well hopefully anyway) getting mugged or worse and or getting lost; wandering accidentally of course into an opium or marijuana field then getting shot at for your stupid map reading skills man. Or ending up doing your best impression of Ned Beatty squealing like a pig in his bvds while he is tied to a tree by ignorant, angry natives.
Yep love that channel!

Awesome trip report and amazingly beautiful pictures!

I recommend 17 mile drive in Monterey! We have to do that any time we are there. We love it!

I second this! And are you doing Hearst Castle while in Cambria? And if you're a wine enthusiast venture over the hill to Paso Robles for family friendly wine tasting and great restaurants! That's where I live :)

Welcome back. Glad to hear that you and your family had a great time! Thanks for sharing the pictures so far. Looks awesome.

Yes there are some great wineries in that area. I'm in Atascadero right now, visiting my brother and we are attending the PolyCon board game convention at CalPoly. So much fun!

Oh wow! Never heard of this and I'm a CalPoly alum! Have fun :)

I definitely will let you know. I will have to pass this along to the wife.
Question for you though...Do they have the dancing only in the summertime? Do they ever do it in the fall or winter?

I remember this past February seeing the swing dancers warming up. So I'll venture to say Winter too, maybe from January on anyway?

Swing dancing goes on year round, unless otherwise announced. For example, because Halloween is on a Saturday this year, it has already been announced that there will be no dancing at PFF that night. However, there has been no announcement yet whether there will be dancing in DCA or DtD on that night.

 Calilou I'm in SLO nice to see someone from the DisBoards in my neck of the woods. Are you getting much smoke from the fire?

Your pictures are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing. We were in DL last week, too, and had a great time! Where do you do the swing dancing? That sounds fun!

Where do you get that kind of announcement from if I may ask?

Under the tent of Princess Fantasy Faire. It's only on Saturday nights though. Usually starts at 7pm and they have several sets.

Hello there! Oh my I'm not aware of a fire! We're home but have been preoccupied with dance recital and Father's Day this weekend. So I guess no ... we're not getting smoke at all up here. I better tune into KSBY!
