I bought a mini palm tree at the Land at Epcot last May, and it has done very well until recently. I'm not sure why, but all of a sudden, the fronds are dying off one by one. Is there any way to save what's left? I've tried to adhere to the instructions on the box, but for some reason, all of a sudden the leaves are getting brown tips, and so are newly grown shoots that usually eventually form fronds.

If I trim it, will it grow back? Anyone know the real name of this plant?

I just bought a mini orange tree from there as well. Any advice on this plant would be welcome too, because the leaves are turning yellow, and again, I'm following the instructions on the box to no avail.

Meanwhile, other plants from seed are doing wonderfully, as are 'Sensitive Plants' from seeds bought where? The Land, of course.

Help me get a green thumb!!

Hi Tara8595, welcome to the DIS, and especially to the Flower & Garden Forum!!:) :)

I haven't been able to find any information on growing mini palms trees (not yet anyway!), so I'm hoping that one of our other buds has them and can help you out!!

Any mini palm tree growers out there?

Kim :)

You just made me remember that on one of our trips to WDW, we came back also with some little tree or the like from Epcot. It did not last long at all. I don't even remember what type it was. Sorry I can't offer something constructive.

Scale seem to love citrus trees, look under the leaves and at stem joints for them. Have you noticed any bugs on either plant or very tiny fly-like bugs around? They could be fungus gnats and an eariler stage of their life are a small worm-like soil bug that loves to eat the roots of plants. If you suspect these could be the problem, try to remove what you can by hand, try insecticidal soap, repot (removing all soil and washing off the roots too). You could also "quarantine" them in a platic bag to check for any flying insects. Another possibility is watering, be it too much or too little. On a happier note, my vanilla plant from Epcot Land pavillion is still growing, but no vanilla beans yet (not that I ever expect any).
