Mini Free Dining Report-- August 2012

Hey there! DBF and I just finished a wonderful week in Disney. We were there August 25- August 30th! Just wanted to share some of our meals with everyone! I was awful at taking pics! So there won't be any, however I will be able to answer any questions you may have about any of the places we visited!


Saturday August 25th 2012

Sunshine Seasons:
Our plane landed and we were heading to epcot by 4:00 pm. We had an ADR for 9:00 at Coral Reef. But we were famished. So we stopped by SS! I had the Mongolian Beef with Rice. It was amazing! Much better than I ever expected and it was a huge portion! Even if I wasn't on the DDP it would have been a great value. For dessert I had the disboards famous strawberry shortcake. Meh. I don't know what I was expecting.. But it certainly didn't live up to the hype.

DBF had the rotisserie chicken with the rice and beans. He gave it two thumbs up. I thought it tasted too smokey. He had the chocolate mousse cake. Yum! But very very rich!

I definately give SS a 4 out of 5. Their selection it amazing!



Like I mentioned before we had a 9:00 ADR at Coral Reef. Bad idea. Because we weren't hungry. I know coral reef gets awful reviews on the dis, but it's a family favorite of mine and I just had to go!

I had the strip steak with mashed potatoes. The steak was very fatty on one side, but nothing I couldn't work around. The sauce for the steak was amazing. I think it was a red wine sauce.

DBF started his meal with a rum runner. Very very strong drink! He loved it. He ordered the lobster pasta. He couldn't believe how good it was. He was in shock that my dis friends thought Coral Reef was so bad!

For dessert we shared the cream brûlée and the baileys mousse.

I love coral reef despite the reviews and I will always continue to go there!

On Sunday the 26th we were up early to have breakfast with some of our favorite Princesses at the castle. DBF has never stepped foot in the castle, so this was a big deal for him. . We were the first people inside the park, since our ressies were before park opening... It was amazing! Much better food than before.


I had the stuffed French toast. It was alright. It was rich, and I only ate about 1/4 of it. DBF however got the steak and eggs. Holy moly! This was amazing! He was in Heaven. I wish I would have tried the healthy choice option.

Our service was quick. And we had a great view overlooking an empty fantasyland. So perfect in that aspect.

We asked for a Milk and a Soda to go with our breakfast in addition to our OJ. It took our server 20 minutes to return. That was the only annoying aspect of our entire visit here.

Foodwise I will rate it a 3 out of 5. But ambiance is a 5 out of 5.


Allstar music food court was our next stop. We had such an early breakfast we needed something to tide us over. Before our nap we stopped in and I had the must to Disney Pizza. Yuck! Pretty sure it was just crust. Lol. I had a coke to drink and a rice krispie treat. DBF had a cheese quesadilla and the rk treat,

Just plain not good. I give it at 1 out of 5.

We should have spent our CS credit elsewhere.




That night we had the coveted Ohana reservation, this is the meal I was most excited for! We got there and checked in, and headed to the tambu for some drinks. We had the lapu lapu and the back scratcher. I love trying new fun drinks. But these were STRONG. Too strong, I didn't even finish mine. But on to the food.

Ohana is amazing. Every good review on here is spot on! I wanted to fill up on the pot stickers and wings. DBF was in awe! When the meat rounds started we had steak first. I loved the steak. Sadly I didn't enjoy any of the other meat. Too smokey flavored. But DBF enjoyed it all!

Dessert wasn't to shabby either . Lived up o the disboards hype.

Nice reviews - thanx for sharing! I love Coral Reef too - except maybe for the steak. A lot of people say it's too fatty. Maybe it's those steak-eaters that give CR a bad rep.
Haven't been to CRT since the menu change. Sounds sooo much better now. You've convinced me that maybe it's time to give it another try.

August 27

This was the day where issac reared its ugly head. It rained alllllll day! We spent this day at dhs.


Allstar music food court

DBF wanted something for breakfast even though we had an early lunch ADR. We used one CS credit and got a chocolate chocolate chip muffin. Oh my, this was good! Very moist and hit the spot. We got these a couple of times coming back from the parks. They are good! Must try! We also split a banana and OJ.

5 out of 5. Simple easy and good!

We had an ADR at 50's at 11 am. I was so exited for this. I have been here many times and I love the idea and concept for food.

Our cousin was alright. Since it was Dbf's first time I wanted someone who would really get into the antics. Our waitress didn't.


I had the sampler. The fried chicken was awesome and so was the pot roast. In fact I wish I would have ordered the pot roast. As far as the meatloaf goes, I was disappointed. I thought mine was better. The sides were okay.. Nothing special. I had a chocolate peanut butter milkshake for dessert. It was good.

Graham had the fried chicken and dads famous sundae. He wasn't wowed either. . I wish I would have been. I've had many good meals here.

Wpe

Okay. For dinner we made the trek to DTD just for wpe. So dissapointing. I stalked these boards and saw plate after plate of spaghetti and meatballs. So I ordered them. It was a terribly small portion and not that good. My cream brûlée was burnt and it was just gross. I was disappointed. Next year I will try EOS.

DBF had the turkey melt and fries. It was awesome. The brownie was thick and gross.

I was so disappointed in this. I wanted it to be so much more than it was.
