Mingos in the Watah! What in the Wuhld?

I read some Disney trivia somewhere that Walt actually had a study done where people were followed in parks and other public places to see how many feet they would walk holding onto their trash before throwing it on the ground.

I actually read that it was Walt himself that decided how far apart the trashcans would be placed. He got a hot dog and began walking down Main Street. The distance between purchasing the hot dog and when he finished eating it was how far apart they placed the trashcans. Either way, I think it's awesome that they put so much thought into it!

I have yet to see Push out in about in Tommowland! Reason #5,678 to go back :thumbsup2

Can't wait to see the new HM queue!!

We're staying at Sports 9/29-10/2! (Then we transfer to VWL until 10/7.) We were at Pop but I decided we needed an additional room and with the free dining we were on (booked waaaaaaay back in October 2010 when they had the free dining promotion last year) there were no rooms at Pop, so we went with Sports! Maybe we'll see you! :) And yep, I'm doing the 5k at AK on 10/1. :thumbsup2

lol. I put the wrong date. DH, DD, DS and I check in the 29th too and we are also doing the 5k. We will probably use purple baby jogger stroller with a green mickey head attached for DS so if you see us say Hi!

Well darn it. I am booked at Sports too but if all goes well I will be changing that reservation to another resort on property. :goodvibes I hope we can all cross paths at the 5K or at least sometime while we are all there.

Absolutely! :)

sorry Memom for hijacking your thread.

It looks like you all had a great morning at the MK. Are there any other kind of mornings there? ;) I am glad Brooklynn enjoyed Space Mountain. It has been several years since I have ridden Space Mountain.

Well darn it. I am booked at Sports too but if all goes well I will be changing that reservation to another resort on property. :goodvibes I hope we can all cross paths at the 5K or at least sometime while we are all there.

I'm hoping to push Seth in his stroller for the 5k, and as I understand it they have the stroller-pushers in the back. So look for me there!

Bella can't quite figure it out.

disneysummmmer165.jpg

Love this picture! :lmao:

Did you notice how many trash cans were in that last picture?
WDW makes it very easy for us to be able to throw our trash away. ::yes::
There is no excuse for littering parks.

I read somewhere that that very thing was something Walt Disney was concerned about. He wanted to be sure that you could only take a certain number of steps (can't remember that number right now) between trash cans. Smart dude!

lol. I put the wrong date. DH, DD, DS and I check in the 29th too and we are also doing the 5k. We will probably use purple baby jogger stroller with a green mickey head attached for DS so if you see us say Hi!

Cool! This is my stroller....

(and my baby....). So keep an eye out for me too!

Stroller division here too. We have a navy BOB. It might be trick out with lights from MNSSHP. If not look for the curly haired toddler in the stroller w her redheaded 8yr old brother and redheaded mom and DH pushing the stroller. We will also be by the POP pool every afternoon.

/
Only in WDW is it normal to hug a trash can. :rotfl:

I love that pic you got of Brookie's reaction to something PUSH said. It must've been funny! Bella is like "What the heck?!"

I'm so excited about the new additions to Fantasyland. I'm getting antsy! Although, I am sad they changed the ice cream place name from Mrs. Potts' Cupboard. Maybe she'll move over to the new part once it's finished. :confused3

I can't wait to see the new stuff in the HM line! It all looks so neat.

Love PUSH! :lovestruc PUSH "found" me when we were leaving Tomorrowland, and harassed me about my Disneyland shirt that I was wearing. We kept discussing the merits of both Parks... much to my children's dismay (they are teenagers after all). It was great fun! :lmao:

Can't wait to see the new additions to HM! :woohoo:

Push! I saw him for the first time in June, very cool and I love watching the kids try get such a kick out of him.

As for regular garbage cans, on the KTTK tour they told us that when the park first opened (maybe even Disneyland) they hired people to watch people walking around the park and saw how far they would go past one garbage pail before throwing their garbage on the floor. That's how they decided how far apart to place the pails. Something to that affect anyway, haha

Loved the new interactive queue for HM, too!

Okay the video is loaded so now you can see

Where the title came from

I was catching up-just watched this video! ADORABLE! I had to watch it a few times. Love that toddler talk! (it's slowly disappearing from this house!)

Aren't you glad this guy

disneysummmmer063.jpg

did what he did?

If he had been satisfied to sit on the bench watching his daughters spin in circles on the merry-go-round, we would not even know each other today. But, he wanted to play with them, and because he did, we are here reading this and sharing each others' lives. Pretty good case for saying that what we do can really have a big effect on others, huh?

YES! Thank you Walt!!!! When I think about it all I get a bit misty. :goodvibes

What an awesome CM! Such a great way to start the trip. I look forward to seeing those Photopass Pictures!

If you can only choose three of these today, which will you choose?
(Go with all rides/attractions being up and running - including the new Tiki Room.)

disneysummmmer115.jpg

The new Tiki Room, Pirates (for Henry) and Space Mountain.

What a beautiful morning at MK! I love the picture of the Castle reflecting in the water. And Brook's hair...so cute! Very clever of Jill! :thumbsup2
I told Brooklynn to hold up her Mickey waffle, and she decided to recreate the ear she had already eaten.

disneysummmmer135.jpg

:rotfl: That is adorable!!!

She is stunning! So glad you got to meet Flynn too. How was it all? I heard so many great things about Flynn, it was sad to hear he was only going to be around during special events now. :sad2:

Alright, all caught up, I'll try my best (as usual) to stay up to date!

Maybe I should know but I don't think I do...what is being constructed behind the wall?

I can't wait to see the new queue for HM! So excited. Love the pictures.

That trashcan is one of my favorite attractions in Tomorrowland!! Bella is so funny watching it!!

She is a bit puzzled by it!

Great pics of the new queue! I cannot wait to see it (I think that's seriously one of the things I'm most looking forward to doing!), and I'm determined to find the ring!

I looked for about two minutes, but it was time to move on. Someone told me it was where the new line meets the old, but I missed it. I'll find it eventually. If you find it first, maybe you can give me an exact photo tour of how to get to it.

Don't get me started on Mr. Toad, MeMom!

Love Bella's perplexed look as she tries to figure out that trash can!

I certainly think of you every time Mr. Toad is seen or mentioned. ;)

Hey, that's a good word for me to share with my kids this year. I'm always looking for words that can help expand their vocabulary, and that's a good one. Bella is definitely perplexed there!

In all our trips we have never seen Push! I will have to put that on my To Do list for next time.

We always have to take multiple rides on the Carousel. Luckily, we've never had to wait in line for it.

We've never looked for Push, but rather we've just come across him by chance several times.

There's hardly ever a line, or at least not a long one - maybe you have to wait for one group to go around first. I asked the CM if we could just stay on as long as there were plenty of open horses, and she said that was fine. We rode three times that time and then got off.

I read some Disney trivia somewhere that Walt actually had a study done where people were followed in parks and other public places to see how many feet they would walk holding onto their trash before throwing it on the ground. I don't remember what the exact number of feet was, but it wasn't much. That was how he determined how far apart to place the trash cans in his parks. I thought that was interesting that he would do a case study on littering! We also saw how they deal with all the trash from the parks on Modern Marvels (History Channel) and that was amazing! They have underground shoots that literally suck it out of the parks under the ground! I think all the behind the scenes inner workings of WDW are really fascinating.

We haven't met that talking trashcan yet, but I hope we do someday.

The new HM queue looks really neat. All the little saying on the grave markers are so funny!

I read the same thing, and I want to say it was 26 feet between trash cans in Magic Kingdom. I don't know if that is correct, or if it holds true for the other parks, but something in the back of my mind says I read 36 feet.

Kids always have a balst with the talking trash can and talking tree at AK. We love to try and spot their friend who is usually standing nearby.

The controlling CM was certainly entertaining this group.
I look around briefly for the CM, but I don't usually spot them right off. Then I go back to watching the crowd reactions.

I really can't wait to see all of the new Haunted Mansion goodies, they look so cool!!

I love how many trashcans are at Disney, they are usually only a few steps away from wherever you may be.

And only at Disney would you see a little girl hugging a trashcan.

If you are a HM fan, you will probably enjoy the new queue very much.

Having many trashcans is a good thing, and most people are respectful enough of the parks to find one. I may have to take a tape measure to Magic Kingdom one day and see if the 'every 26 feet' thing is right. ;)

Bella wasn't too sure about that trashcan! I hope to see it one day-I seem to always miss it.

I am so excited to see the new queue at HM. I have learned quite a bit about the HM lately. I know to look for the hidden Donald (thanks to Jen) and now I hear there is a hidden ring also!

Hope you find it. There are thousands of details in Disney attractions. One could spend many days photographing so many things in just one park, much less four plus resorts. And that will grow even more with the new Fantasyland stuff.

Ive read that too! Really makes you marvel at the details that went into WDW, there truly is a reason why it is such a great destination.

Agreed. ::yes::

I couldn't find the ring either on our last trip. I bet I looked 5 different times but never found it. There wasn't a CM around any time so I didn't have a chance to ask. I love the picture of Jill, John, and Brooklynn in the HM queue. The smile on John's face is great. You can tell he is really enjoying himself.

Yeah, John was really enjoying that queue. He doesn't get into a whole lot at Disney World. He likes it, but he doesn't love it. He had been pretty excited about this trip, though. He would probably be good going four days twice a year. After four days, he gets tired, and he doesn't enjoy it as much. He has a few favorite rides, and he likes the restaurants. ;)

I need someone to do a photo walk to the ring for me. :thumbsup2

You found Push! I"m so jealous because we looked and looked this trip and never saw him. I love to watch the kids...and look in the crowd and find the CM too. I have the best memories of the first time my kids saw him-they were younger and couldn't quite figure it out. Ben was sticking his head in there looking and Push kept making wisecracks. It was hilarious!

I think today is the day you were going to work at school. If it is, don't work too hard. Not quite time yet.

I went to WAWA yesterday and got a frozen coke. I pretended it was in the big sport bottle from Tomorrowland. I also priced flights for a few days in August before we go back to school...too much...but then I figured I could drive so I checked for rooms...no values available. I was disappointed but John just laughed at me. He agrees that I have a DISease!

We have just happened upon Push whenever we have seen him.

Yes, I worked in my room all day. Just putting up the bulletin board paper for four boards took a while. I fixed my Word Wall banner, blew up Mr. Ray, got our new Math books out, went to the supply closet for paper and crayons, and did a few other things. I brought hom some things to work on, but I am not going back into the building until Tuesday. I am hanging on to the last few days of my summer.

I'm right there with you on the DISease. I even told Trent - I could go do a long weekend for my birthday and come back Monday. :rolleyes1

We will be at the POP Sept 28 - Oct 2
And my whole family is running the 5K.

Hope to see some of you there.

MeMom and Jill ~ I can't believe I just found this Looking forward to another fun TR

I'm going to be so excited to see all of you guys at DIS meets! :dance3:

I didn't get to comment on this in a previous update since I haven't been able to DIS the past couple of days, but I am still in awe of Brooklynn conquering Space Mountain. She is a brave girl, my sister is 18 and still nervous on it!

I love the picture of Bella trying to figure out the trash can!

I can't wait to see the new HM queue. Kailyn got to see it in April and really enjoyed but she didn't take any pictures, so I am glad for all yours.

I love seeing/hearing about all the progress on the AoA suites at Pop, and the Fantasyland expansion, because it makes me even more excited to see what it will all look like in January!

By January, I would think both of those areas will be looking nearly completed. I think the major stuff would be done, and the details would be being worked on.

Brooklynn did seem hesitant at all to ride Space Mount-in. :cutie: She's a daredevil these days when it comes to Disney rides!

In all my visits, I have never seen Push! I will have to spend more time in Tomorrowland. the girls, as always, are just so cute!

We've just lucked up on Push a few times.

I am suffering major withdrawal from seeing those girls. Sunday can't get here fast enough. They would be coming Saturday, but they're going to a birthday party Saturday afternoon. Between that and my back room (where they sleep) being covered in school stuff and some left over camp stuff, Jill just said it would make it easier for them just to come for the day. This way I don't have to clear the back room out, and they don't have to pack overnight stuff. But, I am sure ready to see them again!!!

Im sorry, I didnt want to have to post this question three times but I would really like to know.

Sorry. I know I missed other questions, too, while I was doing camp. I'm glad you asked again. DWGal210 is about to answer you. ;)

That will be the new Art of Animation hotel. they're decorating it with Lion King, Nemo, Little Mermaid & Cars themed rooms. Theyre also suites, I think. I'd love to stay there!

Yep - what she said. ::yes::
They're very highly decorated inside and out, too, so if you really want to be immersed in a theme, this should do it for you. They are a also a bit high in price. We're going to try them out, but we'll be waiting for a value season or a code.

Love the matching outfits!! Rapunzel is definitely on our must do list in August, she's still over by Belle's Enchanted Garden, right? Are you guys going to be in WDW in October? David and I are going the 1-8th!

Yes, she's at Belle's former place.

We'll miss you guys. We were going that weekend for the 40th, but Jill couldn't go. I ended up changing my dates, so that I wouldn't have to take off from school. Brooklynn and I will be going during my fall break later in the month.

Hi friends!

The Flynn / Rapunzel meet looked great!! How fun!

I'm updating my PTR tonight. It's been a zoo of a week. I was at Mayo Clinic all day yesterday getting poked & prodded so that was fun. Nothing serious, but needed to be done. On a high note, I stopped in a store that sells Vera bags & brought a few home to live with ms.

Hope you have nothing that is going to slow you down on Disney trips. ;)
Whatever it is, I hope the poking and prodding leads to answers and positive results. :thumbsup2

I will check out your update today.

Oh we all need to get together for a meet.

Art of Animation Inn and Suites I believe.

Make that happen, Pat. ::yes::

I look forward to seeing even more progress across the lake in October! :cool1:

Love the pictures with Push. My DD saw him once and thought that that trash can was the greatest thing ever. She still looks for him every time we go, I hope we find him again during our upcoming trip.

I'm excited to see the new que at HM too. Could you fill me in on this story please? Is the ring like a hidden Mickey or an actual thing like the paint brushes you can find at Tom Sawyer island? Sounds like something fun to try to find either way! Thanks!

The kids do get a kick out of such a unique 'character'! My school kids would go nuts over a talking trashcan.

The last ring at HM was supposedly just a spot where an old gate post had been taken up, but people made it into the bride's ring story. This time, it really is a real ring purposely going along with that storyline. Somebody (maybe DreamIt*DoIt?) has a picture of it. It's in the concrete, though. It is nor removable.

Awww... that's great you got to meet Flynn on his last day. I don't get why they would even think of getting rid of him. I'm pretty sure he was a lot more popular than Rapunzel, though I think they were both very popular in their own right I'll just have to settle seeing Rapunzel my next trip Moving on... those are great pictures you got of Brooklyn and Bella with the two in question. It looked like Bella was slowly warming up to them.

She looked she was starting to edge towards Rapunzel, but I see only Brooklyn got a picture. Oh well

That's great Brooklyn got to ride Space Mountain! One of my all-time faves. It also is the only on-ride photo bought to date. I think I rode it the most on my last trip. I love the pins!

I actually have one of those. It's the one with just Mickey on it not Goofy. Love pin trading :D

WOW! You guys actually got to meet PUSH the talking trash can! I never am able to find him. The picture, where the girl is hugging PUSH, after you saying "We found a very unique waste receptacle" made me laugh so hard. I was all "What's going on here?" Same with Bella's utter confusion as to what the trashcan is exactly. If I didn't know about him, I would have the same response hehehehe

Love the picture with Mary Poppins. I see Bella was trying to make a quick getaway or Jill was losing her grip:

Go Bella!

The new queue for the Haunted Mansion seems to be calling to me. Those are some great close-ups of the little sayings most miss. And :thumbsup2 to the Mr. Toad picture! And what is the deal with the ring? Is that new or something that's been there?

Can't wait to read more!

I don't know why they got rid of the guys. Having two characters interacting was fun. We had a very cute time with Tiana and Naveen.

This ring that I am talking about is new to the queue. The old one was not really a ring, but somehow a story got started about it. This one is not just a circle left by a post, but really a ring.

Oh my gosh this picture is awesome!! Look at what we have going on here!

There's the cute little Princess Jasmine and Princess Belle, fresh from BBB bellying up to give PUSH a hug with Grandpa and the empty stroller laughing and looking on.

Then we have Grandma....

With her hands at her face in horror because her babies are hugging

A TRASH CAN!!

I think little Princess Belle must have realized that Grandma wasn't into this sort of PDA because she's clearly been distracted by her Grandparents.

TOO FUN!!

GREAT PIC MEMOM!!

The grandpa was getting a kick out of the trashcan and the kids having such fun with it.

Wow, that sounds neat! Gonna have to go and google that now

You can youtube it, too. There are a couple of short videos that show it.

Where else in the world would you ever find a princess hugging a trash can?!?

Only in our favorite place, I do believe. ;)

I can just hear Bella saying, "Huggin' a twash can! What in the wuhld?"

Reason #5,678 to go back

Can't wait to see the new HM queue!!

There is always a reason to go back. :thumbsup2

I agree - Walt really thought this stuff out so that everyone could have a fun, safe, clean experience.

lol. I put the wrong date. DH, DD, DS and I check in the 29th too and we are also doing the 5k. We will probably use purple baby jogger stroller with a green mickey head attached for DS so if you see us say Hi!

Absolutely!

sorry Memom for hijacking your thread.

We're fine with the hijacking and thrilled that you guys are working up some DIS meets. Keep it up! We will all enjoy seeing the pictures, and you guys will have the pleasure of meeting face-to-face. :cool1:

It looks like you all had a great morning at the MK. Are there any other kind of mornings there? I am glad Brooklynn enjoyed Space Mountain. It has been several years since I have ridden Space Mountain.

We've never had a bad morning in Magic Kingdom. :)

It's been a while since I've ridden Space Mountain, too. I can take it or leave it, so I usually just sit out with the girls. It gives me a chance to take more pictures, and I am happier with them riding it than I would be riding it myself, so it works. The only ride I don't volunteer to sit out on is Soarin'. ;)

I'm hoping to push Seth in his stroller for the 5k, and as I understand it they have the stroller-pushers in the back. So look for me there!

Love this picture!

I read somewhere that that very thing was something Walt Disney was concerned about. He wanted to be sure that you could only take a certain number of steps (can't remember that number right now) between trash cans. Smart dude!

Maybe it was 26 steps and not 26 feet. Maybe one of us can find the article and share with everyone.

There are going to be a bunch of DISers there for the 40th, and many of them are doing the 5k. You guys have fun! :woohoo: I'll be glued to the webcams.

Stroller division here too. We have a navy BOB. It might be trick out with lights from MNSSHP. If not look for the curly haired toddler in the stroller w her redheaded 8yr old brother and redheaded mom and DH pushing the stroller. We will also be by the POP pool every afternoon.

Afternoons by the Pop pools - very nice! :cool2:

Only in WDW is it normal to hug a trash can.

I can't wait to see the new stuff in the HM line! It all looks so neat.

I'll have to see if Jill remembers anything that Push was saying to Brooklynn.

It seems logical that they would put Mrs. Potts' Cupboard over there, right? I have been hoping they do that, too.

wow you can really see the construction over the wall! can't wait until it opens!

It is really coming along. There will be so many new pictures to take!

Love PUSH! PUSH "found" me when we were leaving Tomorrowland, and harassed me about my Disneyland shirt that I was wearing. We kept discussing the merits of both Parks... much to my children's dismay (they are teenagers after all). It was great fun!

Can't wait to see the new additions to HM!

You got to embarrass your teenagers? :woohoo:

We'll have to take the KTTK tour someday. Maybe what I read was a report from someone who went on that. I really can't remember.

I was catching up-just watched this video! ADORABLE! I had to watch it a few times. Love that toddler talk! (it's slowly disappearing from this house!)

YES! Thank you Walt!!!! When I think about it all I get a bit misty.

What an awesome CM! Such a great way to start the trip. I look forward to seeing those Photopass Pictures!

The new Tiki Room, Pirates (for Henry) and Space Mountain.

What a beautiful morning at MK! I love the picture of the Castle reflecting in the water. And Brook's hair...so cute! Very clever of Jill!

That is adorable!!!

She is stunning! So glad you got to meet Flynn too. How was it all? I heard so many great things about Flynn, it was sad to hear he was only going to be around during special events now.

Alright, all caught up, I'll try my best (as usual) to stay up to date!

Glad you could visit for a while. :goodvibes

The Flynn and Rapunzel meet was very well organized. I like them being together. Did you see that they were holding hands in one picture? That's just sweet.

Maybe I should know but I don't think I do...what is being constructed behind the wall?

I can't wait to see the new queue for HM! So excited. Love the pictures.

You'll see when you go. There is a whole new section of Fantasyland opening up. It's going to be huge! There will be a Beast's castle and a new restaurant and Princess character meets in their own areas. There will be a Little Mermaid ride, and Dumbo is being doubled. Toontown had been taken down, and it is being reconfigured as Storybook Circus. Lots and lots of new stuff coming! :dance3:

I certainly think of you every time Mr. Toad is seen or mentioned. ;)

Hey, that's a good word for me to share with my kids this year. I'm always looking for words that can help expand their vocabulary, and that's a good one. Bella is definitely perplexed there!

Yes, I am perplexed as to why Mr. Toad had to be replaced; I still don't understand the reasoning. ;):lmao:

Omigosh, that little princess hugging Push just made me tear up. Well, first, I laughed my coffee onto my chin. Then I got misty about all that is so special and magical about Walt's world.

Such a nice pic of all your favorite girls with Mary P. Bella seems just fine with being so close to a character as long as Mom's right there. What a sweet look on her face.

Thanks for all the pix of the HM queue! I love the detail you capture, and it was great to see John thoroughly enjoying himself, too. So excited to see it soon. Hoping I can spot the ring, and maybe even the hidden Donald. (Thanks, Jen, for mentioning.)

Although it's exciting to prepare for the new school year, I'm glad you're keeping some last days of summer vacation to yourself. And, if you really want to go, I'll bet you could easily find a volunteer or two -- or seventeen! -- to help you celebrate your birthday at the World. ;)
