Mineral Makeup - Loose or Pressed Powder?

Which is better - loose or pressed powder? I've always just used pressed powder (non-mineral), but I wasn't sure if there is a big difference. I guess I'd prefer pressed since it isn't as messy. Which has better coverage, feels lighter, etc. or is there not much difference? I'm looking for makeup that has good coverage and will not make my acne-prone skin worse. I'll most likely be buying Everyday Minerals. Thanks for any input you can give!

I haven't used a mineral pressed powder---but compared to the non-mineral
pressed powders, the coverage I get with the loose mineral powder is so much better. I use Bare Escentials (sp?). There is a technique to using the powder (swirl the brush and then tap the excess--I tap into the cap). Then there is the application tecnique. The loose powder seems more conducive to covering well.

I like the loose mineral powder. After years of wearing liquid foundation I can't believe how much better my skin feels and looks with just the mineral loose powder. I used to use Bare Escentials and really liked it, but now I order online from everydayminerals.com and like it just as well for a lot less money.

I also love the blush and eyeshadow mineral makeup too! :thumbsup2

Are the loose minerals messy to apply?

I love my loose mineral makeup, and (even though I can be messy) I never make a mess with the loose minerals. You need to use the proper brushes and go slow and light, building up your coverage, until you get used to applying.

I like to spray my brush with either water or a setting lotion (I like Urban Decay All Nighter makeup setting spray) before I swirl it into the foundation. I don't drench the brush, but just give it a light mist, then tap off the excess and apply to my face. When I put on eye makeup, I hold a tissue under my eye to catch any loose makeup before it can get on my cheeks.

I love Everyday Minerals mineral makeup as Bare Escentuals doesn't work as well for me. I mix two different shades to get my perfect skin tone match.

I like loose because it feels lighter to me. I also feel like I use a lot less of it. Plus I feel like I get a smoother, softer coverage.

OH, and I just saw you are getting Everyday minerals! I LOVE that brand! CathrynRose told me about Everyday Minerals.

I was using the loose stuff and mistakenly bought the pressed stuff and I have to say I like the pressed better. I use my loose stuff brush, not the foam applicator that came with it. They feel the same but the pressed covers better and gives a smoother finish.

I only use the translucent mineral powder on top of my MAC liquid foundation to set it, and make it look like natural skin texture, not liquid foundation on top of skin. I tried the loose powder and it was just too messy. It's not something transportable. And if you drop the container, forget it! Powder all over the place. Plus, I really don't understand that sifter with the holes. The powder never goes back down but always comes UP. :confused3 I find way too much on top.

Nowadays, the pressed powders are crushed so microfine, they don't have that old reputation of a cakey "powdery" look anymore. :scared1: I just swipe off as much as I need, blend it into the brush and buff it on. Close the compact and done.

Hmmmm I've never had any problem transporting mine...

OP you might want to just try both and see which you like best. I love the loose, my mom loves the pressed. Everyone's answer will be different and each one will contradict the one before it heehee:laughing:

Your container does flip around & turn upside down when you carry it around, so that when you open it, there is excess powder above the sifter? I always had to be careful when I opened it. Definitely not on top of my clothes, because the loose powder at the edges of the cover would end up on my clothes. If I open it on a counter, there would be a ring of powder around the counter. :headache: Some bathrooms are not too nice, where I want to be setting items down on the sink. :scared:

Well I don't take it with me during the day because I've never felt the need to re-apply. But, when I'm travelling I put the container at the bottom of the makeup bag and pile everything on top of it, so it doesn't move around or anything. I guess if I was carrying it in my purse it might be a different story.

When I use mine I tap some out into the lid then swoosh it up with the brush and when I put the lid back on, it is empty.

No one ever taught me to do that. Great idea. :thumbsup2

Yay! Girl talk can be so helpful sometimes!!! :cool1:

Yeah. :goodvibes I was always dipping into the top of that ssifter thingie. That's why there was always way too much powder up there. I even taped it over with Scotch tape, except for a couple of holes. But, traveling around in my purse all day, which never stays upright :upsidedow, it gets tossed in the corner, the back of the car, etc., too much powder gets through, even in those two little holes. :headache:

Mine has a little swivelling piece of plastic that covers up the holes when you don't need them, kind oflike a bottle of parmesan cheese!
