Mine Train strategy/crowds with EMH added (staying off property)

We're planning on being at MK on April 20. Until earlier today hours were 9am - 10pm. Now they're 8am - 11pm with 7-8am EMH. We're staying off property and wanted to do rope drop to Mine Train. Now that's not possible. How crowded will it be if we arrive for public park open at 8am? Is walking onto Mine Train still possible with shortish wait?

I think it's still worth a try. You'll want to be at MK by 7 am, so you're positioned to get on Main St and be at the front of the rope drop line that leads to 7DMT. The EMH guests will probably be headed elsewhere once the park opens for all other guests. You're still waiting, but at least you're not waiting during park hours. Just make sure you're at the correct rope and towards the front.

My guess would be a 45 minute wait by that time, maybe longer. It is Easter week after all and a prime spring break time so large crowds are to be expected, hence the 0700 opening.

You may as well still head there first. Even if it is 45 mins, it's not going to be shorter than that at any other point during the day (apart from maybe closing)

I just checked this AM during HS EMH and at 8:45am RRC was 85 min!!

It is never worth going to an AM EMH park if you can't be one that gets there early.

That whole week is 7am emh at MK. The 20th is likely one of the best days of the week for off site guests. It follows a 12-2a pm emh.

Ha crazy this is my exact question but for April 13th.
I'm not too much of a fan of 7DMT but its something that EVERYONE in my party will go on including my mom (Well we are kinda forcing her lol) and we were planning on doing it at 9am RD on April 13th but hours got extended to 8am opening and 7am EMH so I'm also wondering if its worth trying for at 8am or if there's a better time?

We always stay off site, so I feel your pain. 7DMT is the one and only ride in all of WDW that's a challenge to get on for us. We simply have no interest in showing up at the front gates 60 minutes before the park opens. We don't look at EMH calendars, so we really don't even know (or care) what parks have it on what day...outside if 7DMT, we don't really find it to be an issue. So for 7DMT, I'd just check repeatedly for a FP+ in case someone dropped theirs. Otherwise, yeah, you'll just have to wait in line.

I am in the same boat (MK on 4/13, staying offsite), but I did manage to get 7DMT FPs the morning my FP window opened. They are for 8:30 at night though...not ideal, but at least I have them.

What was your party size?
Mine is 10. I could have split the party up but we would not have gotten overlapping times.
It's unfortunate but I'm sure we'll manage.

OMG everyone! I just switched my PP FP+ to 7DMT and then modified it to 8:45am-9:45am!
So now we can have our cake and eat it too!
PP at RD as usual then a couple other attractions and then mine train.

Yay!!!!! I am so glad you got them! THANK YOU so much for posting about it! I just went and checked, and I was able to move mine from 8:30 PM to 8:55 AM. I am so much happier with that time because it opend the door for a 4th plus FP for the minor attractions. I have literally been trying 4 or 5 times a day to move it, and there has been zero availability (even tried earlier this morning - nothing). I am happy! Thanks again Queen of the WDW Scene!

Actually no this literally is our only park day option. It's a super short trip. It it help the only day I've ever been to MK was NYE so we know what crowds are. And it still was a great day.

Best bet is to check everyday for FPs. You never know when you might get lucky. If you can't get FPs maybe check the ride times on the app during the week in early April just to see if there's any time that is seems to be shorter lines. I've personally only ever ridden at rope drop while no EMHs. It's a super short kids coaster. Of course when I had my AP I would totally skip MK most weeks I would be in Orlando.

What age group is your party? My family's strategy is always to stay until park close and hop in line 5-10 minutes before. The wait is always listed around 90 minutes at that time but that's ALWAYS not true. Once the park closes there are no more fast passes so the line moves quickly. The longest I've waited at the end of the night was 35 minutes so if your party is planning on closing out the park I highly recommend doing it that way

With you guys being my sister and i's age I really would do that. I know you might be tired at the end of the night but this is the best way to avoid the long wait. Even if you go to the park an hour or so later to get extra sleep that's what I would do. Also even during the busiest of times (this past New Years) I was actually able to grab fast passes for it after using my first 3. Make sure you utilize that on the app. If you keep playing around with the times something new will pop up. For example if I click 5:30 it might say nothing is there for buzz but when I click 6 a bunch of times will pop up for it so maybe you'll be able to grab a fast pass and not even have to wait until night. If mine train does pop up for a fast pass definitely grab it for whatever time it is though. Then you can go back in and try to modify it for something sooner. Hope this helps
