Mine Train / Kiosk question

My CM daughter will be using her Main Gate Pass to get us into the parks. From what I understand we will not be able to book any Fast Pass+ ahead of time using those tickets. But that's fine - we are not rope-droppers so we are used to not having a lot of selection left by the time we get to the parks. We are going down specifically to check the Mine Train off our list though, so we might go against our principles (ie. set an alarm) and get to the parks a little earlier (we simply are night owls and prefer doing everything later in the day). But maybe not....

My question is how late have you arrived in MK and been able to get a same-day Mine Train Fast Pass from the kiosk? Currently the day we will probably be there is only a 4 for crowds on easywdw.com. What have standby times been like on 4 or 5 crowd days?

Thanks!!

I'm not sure I've read of one person successfully doing this.

I think everyone that has done this has kept it a secret. I agree, I don't think I've ever seen anyone say "Wow I got to the park at Noon (or 11 or whatever) and got FPs for 7DMT."

Time will tell if it's another TSM, or Soarin. But I suspect it will be. It seems to have just the right mix of appeals.

We were in the parks on a 7 or 8 crowd day in the first part of June. We were in line at the mine train right after rope drop and heard a family talking about being unable to get a FP+ for the mine train for the whole week they were at Disney. BTW...Got on in about 15 minutes. We stopped by a kiosk around 9:30 or 10 to check something and the CMs were telling people that there were no mine trains to be had for the day.

On another note, on our last night with MK closing at midnight, we got in line at about 11:45 with a posted wait time of 65 minutes. We were walking off the ride about 10 minutes after 12. If you are night owls, you might have luck getting in line right before closing. The posted wait time are mostly overstated. As long as you are in line before closing, you will get to ride. We got in line for Soarin' at 8:58 with a 9:00 closing. Stated wait time was 15 minutes. We walked right on.

I would also suggest using EMH if you are staying onsite. We went a couple of weeks ago and my son wanted to ride at 2 a.m. We were through the line and off of it in 20 minutes.

Thanks everyone - that's about what I figured. But then it means I don't have to try and get there early. I like the idea of doing it right before park closing much better!

Lucked out 2 weekends ago and got same day FP at 8:59pm for 9:00-10:00pm, a return time of a minute later. The FP kiosk guy thought he was seeing things and was completely shocked. We were too. It was our 8th FP of the day and we were checking one last time before we left for the night. We lucked out, the ride had be closed and as we walked up they were just letting everyone back in. We hopped in the standby line, waited 15 minutes, then used our FP. Great ending to our night! SO it is possible, but not too likely. I recommend keep checking throughout the day, you never know! This FP was for 2 people, and I imagine if you try separately searching for FP you might have better luck looking for just one versus a larger party.

Agree with comments from other posters about the possibility of late-night rides. 7DMT opened on, what, May 28, I think? Wednesday? We arrived on the Sunday (late) of that week and, thanks to a soft opening, were able to ride it. A lot. Like, four-times-in-a-row-back-to-back lot.

Of course, it was "Extra Magic Hours" and the park was open until 2:00 a.m. However! Even after the ride officially opened on that Wednesday, by sticking around until the last hour or so that the park was open, posted wait times of 60+ minutes were, in reality, no more than 20 minutes...and that's not a guess, one of us always sets the "stop watch" feature on the phone the moment we step into a line. Don't necessarily believe posted wait times!
