We have two kids, ages 6 and 3 (at time of visit), and I was planning to get fast passes for my husband and the two kids for these attractions. However, I have also read that kids under 7 can't ride without a parent or responsible party. Can the three of them all ride at once, or is something similar to rider switch possible to ensure both kids get to ride?

Of course. They don't necesserily have to be next to each other, they just have to be accompanied by an adult, meaning could be behind them or anything.

good question on the mine train - I'm not sure how that would work - I *think* your husband could ride behind them but am not sure

on Kilimanjaro they can seat 5/6 depending on size in a row so that's not a problem.

Only seats for two people in a row on the mine train. Kids have to be a certain age to ride without an adult. I don't think a 6 year old is old enough. We rode last week and there were two kids sitting behind us. The cm's checked their ages before letting them ride without a parent. They were older than 6

7 and under have to be sitting next to a parent I do believe. So on mine train the 6yr old couldn't sit in front or behind the parent, you'd need to do child swap.

Kilimanjaro Safari is big rows where you can fit like 6-7 people. So that ride would be fine. Small children just can't sit on the ends of the row

This is correct.

Children under 7 can't sit in a row by themselves.

Some more confident, but less scrupulous, parents might tell a 6-year-old to lie and say they were 7 so they could run through the single rider line at Rock and Roller Coaster and Expedition Everest over and over and over again. Surely, I don't condone that behavior but I...er, they...might have really needed a break from the non-stop roller coaster riding.

I vaguely recollect being told when I had my 5 and 9 year olds on barnstormer that the only coaster I could let them ride 2x2 and sit behind them was Mine Train because of the individual seat restraints.

Would you feel comfortable if your 6 year old (are they an old or young 6?) were sitting in front or behind you and your 3 year old? If so - I would plan to ride that way. My daughter turned 6 last week and has been on the rides many times - I would not be worried about her sitting in a row with a stranger without me while I think most 3 yo need to have a parents next to them.

I have seen kids under 7 site together on 7DMT ( they had Bday buttons on that said I do believe 5) the CM wished them a happy birthday

also on space mountain you sit next to no one and yet they let young kids ride on this with no problem

Mine Train I have heard go both ways in almost equal numbers. Sometimes CMs allow a child under 7 to ride in front of the adult and sometimes they will require the adult to be next to the child. I'm not sure there is any way to know for sure before you get there which way the CMs are gonna go that day.

We had a situation at DL (same rules) where my DH, my 1 y/o and myself got in to an IASW boat with my 13 y/o, 11 y/o and 6 y/o in the row behind. We didn't even think about it since we were all "together". The CM instantly stopped our boat, asked the oldest's age (13) and the 6 and said they couldn't ride together, even though they were directly behind us (both middle rows). So we pulled the 6 y/o up with us and all was fine. She did say she would have likely allowed it if we had been in the row behind the 6 y/o. Truly just an oversight by us, we assumed that if we were all "together" it wouldn't be an issue. So 7D could be an issue. But I think the Safari has plenty of space for a father and 2 small children? It has been a couple years since we were on it so I can't exactly remember the seats, but I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

Are you going to be with them but just not ride?

If so, for 7D Mine Train, you could also get a FastPass for yourself. Let your husband ride with one of the kids, and then give him your magic band, and he can then use your fastpass to ride a second time with the other kid.

That would eliminate the worrying about if a cast member would let them all ride at the same time (bc as mentioned, 7 is the age to ride alone), and they would both get to enjoy the ride next to dad.

If you are also going and just not on the rides, a rider swap should work.

They're not going to be able to get a rider swap unless they have a too-short child. An adult who doesn't wish to ride doesn't qualify the party for rider swap.
