mine train 38 inch

My son went ON his 3rd birthday and was just shy of 38 inches when measuring at home and hit the stick and was able to get on.

It's not as rough as the other coasters, but depending on the age of the child you probably want to secure them as much as you can with your arm. The barnstormer has a smaller height requirement and we (and my son) thought that was too rough for him (to the point he doesn't want to go on it again on our next trip despite being a year and half older and 4 inches taller!

@Dreamer24, I don't know if this will make any difference, but I've never seen a measuring stick at 7DMT. If I'm holding my son, they ask me to put him down and make him walk. The CM's are obviously comparing his height to some gauge, but he's never been put directly up to a measuring stick on that ride.

Is this a jerky ride sort of like Big Thunder Mountain?

No, it is in fact a very smooth ride. The coaster intensity level is somewhere between Barnstormer and Big Thunder, but since it is brand new the track is very smooth. The ride is also quite short, but still very good.

It's the 5th picture down on the this page (unless they've changed it): http://www.allaroundorlando.net/2014/04/seven-dwarfs-mine-train-update-from.html?m=1

Piggy backing on the question....for those whose child was not much taller than the required 38 inches...how were the security bars on the ride? Did you feel comfortable with them? Did you put your arm across your child?

My 5 yr old doesn't want to ride (he did once last year but he says never again) but my 2 (almost 3) yr old says he wants to. So, if he ends up being tall enough, I'm just wondering how the security bars fit (I've forgotten from my one ride last year).

If the height requirement is 38 inches and you have a child on it, they will be fine with the bars. And I'm sure the older one will be fine again on it - maybe not on the next trip but one after that. With our grandkids, we've found that five years old is the "learning trip", having taken both of them at that age. One didn't want to do anything with fire, water, or dark and the other just going along and then saying "never again". Both have been back and both have laughed with their earlier reactions.

I've just heard of people mentioned at Barnstormer they did not feel like their children were that secure so I wanted to ask about Mine Train, too. I've only ridden once so I couldn't really remember the set up. And I have never ridden Barnstormer.

Barnstormer was only marginally better than Dinosaur, which I hated and put on my never ever again list. The seats are uncomfortable, it's a jerky, bumpy ride, and just not worth it at all to me.

Good to know!

It's just so hard to compare. My youngest HATES barnstormer but Dinosaur is his absolute favorite. December 2015 we rode 5 times in a row near park closing because he couldn't get enough. He's not a giant SDMT fan but really likes BTMRR.
It's so funny you say that because even my DH is like that. He doesn't ride roller coasters but BTMRR is one of his favorite rides??? LOL

We are going to try Barnstormer for sure. Just to see how it is. Then we will go from there. We are probably skipping Dinosaur for now but will try it once they are older.

I believe it is. When we took our son the first time when he was three, they measured him a second time in line to make sure he was eligible.

DS was 4 during that December trip. 4 was also the first ride on TOT. He did it...and he continues to do it...but I'm pretty sure he doesn't enjoy it.
