Mindbender: Upgrade WDW AP to Premier AP at Disneyland

Hi-

I called Disneyland regarding this, they asked me to call WDW, I got transferred a bunch of times and I think at least 4 people's heads exploded.

I have a Florida resident seasonal AP. I will be at Disneyland next month and wondered if I could upgrade that pass to a "premier" pass (DL and WDW). My hopes were that the price would be prorated based on the time left until expiration. The answer I finally got was that I could upgrade for the full price difference, but the renewal date would remain the same. That is a bad deal all around. I suppose I'll call back and try and get someone else, because apparently there are multiple answers to all questions regarding tickets at Disney.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I have a DLR Premium AP and when I was at DLR in Feb (when I activated my AP) I asked about upgrading to the premier as well. I wanted to do it in Jan (one month before my AP is to expire) so that I could pay the difference and go to WDW the following year.
I was told that I would have to pay the total difference in price and the expiration would stay the same. So it wasn't going to work for me.
Bummer oh well, WDW ticket prices aren't too bad in my opinion.
You guys are lucky, haha, $375 for 10 days?! Sign me up!

I did it last month. And no prorating.

They took what I paid for WDW ($525 I think or something near that) and applied it towards the cost of the Premier (849 I think) I paid the difference.

It took a while and they had to actually call WDW to find out what I paid for that pass. Then they applied the 3 day PH tickets I had in my possession, plus the 525, and I paid the difference.

Since I was in the parks 4 days (we were adding a day) and I am going back in January for 4 more days, I come out ahead. But not by a lot.

I figure I made up some ground with the AP discount for food and souvenirs though.

There is no multiple answer here. They do NOT prorate. Neither does WDW. Ever.

The good part about upgrading is that you aren't dinged because you've already used days; they don't downgrade the amount that your ticket/AP is worth. But they don't prorate, either.

In your situation, it's almost certain that just buying a normal Disneyland ticket will be cheaper than upgrading to the Premier.

Does the same apply for a DL annual pass?

Example: The deluxe DL AP is 469, say I paid 300 for the WDW seasonal pass (expiring in Feb). I would then pay 169 for the DLR deluxe AP that would expire in Feb?

No. A Disneyland pass and a WDW annual pass are separate things. The only upgrade that you can do from one of these in order to visit the other park is the upgrade to premiere for access to both parks. You cannot turn a WDW pass into a Disneyland pass or vice versa.

100% correct!!! You got the right answer. There is absolutely no pro-rating and the only way to upgrade a WDW pass at DL is to upgrade to the Premier, otherwise it has absolutely no value at DL.
