It's a sad day when a rental car for one week is going to cost way more than your airtravel. Does anyone in the milwaukee area or who travels frequently to the area have any budget ideas for car rental (i.e., taking a taxi/shuttle to another rental facility, etc)? Any help or advice appreciated.

Mousesavers dot com has a whole page of rental car discount codes. I always get great deals from one of those codes.

Where are you trying to get to in Milwaukee?? I might be able to provide a few suggestions.

Give us your dates & let us play for a little bit. I bet we can come up with something!

Also, are you a Costco member? Costco offers the best rates for their customers - I believe they do really well on either Hertz or Alamo - can't remember which (I don't have Costco but have done comparisons with someones code).

Thanks for your help!!! My husband went through his company travel site and was able to find one that was reasonable. I was trying codes and getting 700ish (including taxes and fees) for a compact:crazy2: It is during the week of EAA air show in Oshkosh. Rates for everything get jacked up. Our room at the Holiday Inn Express last year was $350 a night -for a Holiday Inn Express, seriously. To be honest, this is the first time we have ever been able to use his company's travel site for cheaper than what I could find myself. Since I have you here, any good bakery's in the area (appleton). I need to get my son a birthday cake, and want it to be a little special and very yummy.

Enjoy your stay in my neck of the woods. :)

Airfare was the killer for me to Milwaukee. An associate suggested I fly into Chicago and take a bus from there. It was pretty convenient, and if I hadn't walked up just as a bus left, would have been just as fast as a layover and another flight. The buses ran every hour and even had a pickup point near my hotel. Saved more than $1000 on my airfare.

That is helpful about Chicago. I will definitely note that for the future.

I will be calling Mandersfield Bakery for a cake. Thanks for the reference. Any places special to eat that we should not miss? Appleton appears to have more than where we stayed close to the airfield last year.
