And just a tip for parents with toddlers. Do NOT give your child milk in the heat of Florida. My 2yo DD had 1 1/2 sippy cups of milk and took a nap mid morning. She then threw it up. It had curdled in her stomach in the heat.

:confused3 What exactly was your concern about the milk? Was it so hot outside that the milk wasn't cold enough to drink? Once your daughter drank it, that milk goes right to her 98.5 degree, very acidic stomach. Whether it is vomited back up or not, milk probably curdles to some degree after ingestion.
More likely she vomited b/c of something else, not bad milk.

I was going to say the same thing. Most likely she vomited because she was either tired or hot. Milk most of the time doesn't come up the same way it went down lol

ALL milk curdles the minute it hits your stomach -- the acid does it. Trust me, children in Florida and other sub-tropical climates drink milk in the heat all the time, and it doesn't come up any more often than it does at other times of the year.

Most likely she had some other reason for her tummy upset; it could even have been stress.

The one time it's really wise not to give milk is on airplanes. Not because it causes airsickness, but the presence of dairy in the stomach can make the nausea more immediate. It also makes the issue of cleanup much more difficult on a plane, where the smell of that curdled milk cannot be vented away.

Just a little tip that might help. My baby doesn't tolerate Milk well at all..Didn'at have any issues with formula but can't do regular milk so to make sure he is getting his daily supply of calcium we use 2 tricks 1) Give him a glass of OJ in the am sometimes 2 that is Calcium fortified --plenty of that in Florida 2) In the grocery store they have already made Carnation Instant Breakfast Shakes. They have vanilla and chocolate. I give him one everynight after he eats his dinner with no issues. So hope that helps someone out there looking for a milk substitute.

Also he is a BIG broccoli fan and they actually get more calcium from the food than from the milk.

It probably had more to do with how your child was feeling rather than the milk + the weather. I've lived in Florida my whole life and my DD loves milk. The only time she has a issue with it is if she's overheated or maybe has a bit of an upset stomach.

I've had my DD throw up in the heat from milk. Learned our lesson - anyway when it's hot it is kind of hard on the tummy. We don't do milk much at all in the heat, and this is a good reminder. The child may think it tastes good, but really lemonade or water is better, even gatorade or something, if it's really going to be to much on their tummy.

My DD was milk allergic until age 2; DS is still outgrowing his allergy (part of a research study at Johns Hopkins for it, so we're all too familiar with allergies). But still, even soy milk can be too much protein in the heat.

Yes, all milk curdles when it hits the stomach acid - I remember when I learned about that in school thinking how gross!!! It's even more gross when you have to clean it up!

I guess the millions of people living in FL or living in Texas, or any other southern state have nothing but vomit fests in the summer..

Seriously... if its hot, then this is what happened...

1) your kid got heat exhaustion. This will cause them to vomit. its a symptom. If you don't give them other fluids or cool them off then this can happen.

2) if your milk wasn't in an insulated container and had sat in your bag or out for some time, it DOES go bad... When we go out with our DS1, we put it in an insulated container with ice or icepacks.

3) your kid picked up a virus from one of the thousands of other kids there..

4) your kid got food poisoning if you gave her your normal food.

i shudder to think I could never give my kids milk ever again....

We also use occasionally the Carnation instant breakfast shakes in chocolate for the DD. She drinks Rice milk though with the powder. We prefer Shaklee shakes, but have to deal with Carnation when Shaklee runs out.

he said that the locals were always telling him milk will make him sick. It never did. But I wonder if there is a little to that. I'm sure it was the fact she was napping in the stroller in the sun. She was totally fine afterwards. Happy as can be.

depending on where in El Salvador he was at, the milk may not be pastuerized properly there...

We always pack the small bottles of Gatorade when we go and put it in our semi-soft cooler. When me and DD4 went in May it was hot and Ihad 4 of those, about 4 water bottles, plus more in the car's larger cooler and we went through them quick...

Milk goes down as a liquid but comes back up as chunks. TMI I know but it's the truth! LOL

I doubt the sun shining on her belly made the milk curdle. Body temp's are the same no matter where you are, kids in Florida drink milk I'm sure without consequences. It may have had more to do with the milk itself and not the fact that she drank milk and it was hot outside.

Does anyone know if you can get whole milk inside of magic kingdom? I'd rather not bring a refill and try to keep it cool all day.

We stayed at ASM and they had it there. I didn't try in the parks though.

Our baby had reflux, so we have seen our share of milk coming back at us - LOL! Our baby still throws up a lot has he has asthma, and coughs a lot, and his milk is hardly curdled when it comes back up. Many times it comes back out the same way it went in - I guess I will disagree with most of the posters above who say it always comes out curdled, as it definitely doesn't with our son. As well, we go to WDW for 2 weeks each July, and I have breastfed and given formula on days when it was 105 degrees in Orlando, and no issues, so I would agree that it might have been the milk itself, too much (1.5 sippy cups is a lot of milk for a small tummy) at one time, or baby had a virus or upset tummy to start with. The heat is hard period, so I would never give 1.5 sippy cups full of milk at one time - our DS2 gets 2 ounces at a time and never gets more than 4 ounces total. Our ped agrees that most parents just cram milk down their kids throats, and as a food, it is hard to digest, on a regular day, so with the heat, it might just have aggravated her tummy as she drank too fast, or it didn't actually digest when she laid down to rest, BTDT.

Our kids drink cold, fresh milk at WDW all of the time, as well as fresh water and juice as it keeps them hydrated, and so even if they were to throw it back up, I would never assume it was the heat at all. There could be many reasons - our ped always encourages milk even when our kids aren't feeling well, as it has a lot of water in it, so it's fine as even if they throw some of it up, they will retain some nutrients and water. My son was very ill as a baby, and all he would drink was my breastmilk - it was a Godsend as that was all he could stomach many times when he was ill with pneumonia or bronchitis.

Good luck in figuring this out, Tiger

Wow i'm just going to say we never had this problem with our kids in the extreme heat of above 90 degrees . when our kids where real young . i'm sorry you had to go thru this but possiblitie like someone else might of said maybe not enough fluids .

lol sorry I'm a florida mom and my 2 year old drinks his milk without throwing it up everyday.:rotfl2:

I think what you have to be careful with is letting milk set out in the cup too long in the heat. Probably tastes really yucky. Unless you have a great insulated sippy, I would stick with milk in the morning before parks or in restaurants in the parks. Out in the parks, walking around, go with juices and water.
