We're about to experience Disney World in a whole new way this October. We will be traveling with our daughter for first time to DW. She will be 11 months by then. We travel to DW about 2 - 3 times per year, however, this will be our first trip in 2 years. We are also bringing friends of ours. This will also be their first trip to DW and they will also have a baby traveling with them as well. So I am seeking some advice. One of the babies will be a year old by then and drinking milk. Does anyone know if DW sells organic milk on the property? If not, where did you buy your milk? We will be there for nine days and will need a few cartons. Also, what did you do to keep it cool in the FL heat?

I don't recall DW selling organic milk on property, but I know you can buy those pouches of organic milk (kind of expensive) that does not require refrigeration:

If you want to make it cold, I think you can get a cup of ice and dunk it. I'm not sure if it can be frozen.

My son was 18 months when we took him last year. We don’t drink organic milk, so I can’t help you there. The kids meals we ordered for him came with a carton of milk (we put a straw in for him) and the TS places gave him a cup with a lid. We didn’t need to keep it cold as we didn’t take it with us.

I will say that we laid off the milk as the trip went on. Our son tends to get constipated when traveling (which apparently happens to a lot of people), and milk is constipating. We mostly gave him water to drink.

you will have to buy cartons separately as you will not be able to fit much in mini frigs in most rooms. also if you decided on the nonrefrig milks make sure you try it at home before you go. nothing worse than bedtime first night and child refuses bottle because milk doesn't taste right. don't ask how I know but have been there

We purchased milk for our 15 month old twice a day at our hotel quick service. I never once saw organic milk (and I only use organic while at home but had no choice here), it was Hood milk I believe. And Milk in cartons was difficult to find in the parks, so I gave Motts tots (my daughter chokes on water) as hydration. I purchased motts tots juice boxes from Garden Grocer. And I didn't want to use milk just poured into a cup at a restaurant, I wanted a carton that I could open myself and pour into a Sippy cup.

I would look at having a grocery order delivered to your hotel. We have used Safeway and it was great.

We have never found any. We order organic milk from garden grocer.

We order ours from Garden Grocer or Orlando Grocery Express along with other stuff for snacks and breakfast. They do have a $40 minimum and delivery fee so if milk is all you need it may not be helpful. But I've never seen organic milk on property.

Also Remember that switching to whole milk does not have to happen the day they turn one. Staying on formula a few extra weeks or even months till after the trip can make things easier. Milk is easy to find at WDW but not always whole milk and I agree I’m not sure I have seen organic. We bought the individual boxes on a trip when our little guy was about two and he refused to drink them so definitely try them out first.

OP doesn’t say how long before the trip the 1 year old turns 1. The kid may be completely switched before they go. For a normal, healthy, 1 year old, it’s not going to hurt them to have 1% or 2% occasionally (or for a week vacation). I always gave my son whole milk at home when he was 1, but when we went out to eat or on trips, I just took whatever the restaurant had. It was easier for us that way.

In March 2017 This was the milk that came with SOME of the kids meals we ordered at Disney. I preferred DD8 to drink the organic milk because compared to what we get here in Canada, the US allows their farmers to use many drugs and hormones that Canadian farmers can't use. Definitely saw this at the starbucks.

If im not mistaken, Organic milk is one of the options on Prime Now orders for Orlando. Not sure if you are Prime members, or if your friends are, but i think i remember that being a choice when we started planning our Now order for next months trip. If you are prime members, thats definitely something to look into. We are ordering some fruit, milk, diapers and wipes, etc from Amazon, which we did last time, minus the produce. We got snacks for the kids, cereal and poptarts, breakfast stuff plus the diapers we needed. Super convenient and saves on the cost of the weight for your luggage. Wouldn't travel to WDW without a Prime order!

I forgot about Starbucks carrying organic milk.

One of my kids is underweight and needs whole milk - we couldn’t be flexible about that like we were with our first child.

We brought the individual Horizon whole milk boxes with us to the parks. My parents drove down and brought them for me but I am guessing one of the grocery delivery services offers them.

Also, Starbucks will fill up a cup with whole milk. I can’t remember how much it cost but I did it a few times so I could save the boxes we had left for flying. It was not economical but worked in a pinch.

Right, which is why I said a “normal, healthy” 1 year old. OP doesn’t indicate whether or not her friend’s child has health issues. But if the kid is a typical kid, lower fat milk for a week isn’t going to hurt anything.

I wasn’t disputing what you were saying - I totally agree with you (that is what we did with our first child - if we were out somewhere, we used whatever milk was available.)

I just wanted to add that IF they do need or want whole milk, the Horizon boxes worked great to bring to the parks and Starbucks filled in in a pinch. They don’t have whole milk in the cases but were happy to pour some from behind the counter.

you were luckier than us as those were not what we used at home first night at bedtime toddler would not take bottle as it did not taste right. so to any parent I would be sure to try at home before trip

It definitely tastes different than whole milk.

Starbucks carries the Horizons and so do many of the CS now especially at the hotels. My son was 13 months when we first traveled and I was basically still BF but he did have milk some days and that is what we did. How often does she have milk? I only ask because I know my ped said he really only had to have one cup a day at that age as they are eating more solids. I know every ped recommends differently though. So we usually have stuff in the room (we pick it up or have it delivered by Garden Grocer) and let him have his milk with breakfast. It is too hot throughout the day and milk doesn't sit too well in his stomach so some days he just didn't have it. He ate alot of cheese and yogurt to make up for it lol...
