Sorry to ask such a stupid question, but i have to small children who prefer milk and water over anything else. 2% and chocolate a MUST! Can you tell me if they carry either milk preferences. If not, do you thing it would be a problem to buy 1/2 gallons or mini jugs and take with us in soft side cooler . Children are 2 and 4 (which my 4 year old takes chemo medication mixed in with the milk).

Thanks!

DCL would have no objections to you taking onboard what you want....but there really is no need. Both are available. I know for certain that all types of milk, whole, low fat, skim and reduced fat choc. milk in small containers are available every morning at Beach Blanket Buffet....and you can take as much as you would need and bring it back to the cabin and store in your own cooler with ice...or use the cooler box in the room (some reported that theirs never kept things cold enough, but on 13 DCL cruises we never had a problem).

I have had both milk and choc. milk in the dining rooms as well. I do not think you will have a problem. also, at the Deck 9 drink station is a milk dispenser that is available almost all the time...not sure though if it reduced or whole milk.

After rereading your post...since your DD has a valid medical condition you can request a real refrigerator (small tabletop size) for your cabin...call DCL and inquire....I believe you will have to fill out a medical form saying that your DD needs to have her medicine mixed with milk and stored in a refridgerator.

At dinner one night, my niece had several glasses of chocolate milk and then wanted more, but her parents cut her off because we were ready to leave. The head waiter said he would have a glass of chocolate milk sent to her stateroom - he sent several cartons!

On the Magic they have whole milk and half and half on tap at the beverage station, but they always have skim and 1% milk and chocolate milk at the buffets. Not sure about 2%, at least in chocolate since most manufacturers have switched to one percent or non fat milk.
I assume the medicla situation dictates the 2% since most doctors prefer children under 5 drink only whole milk.

My doctor actually recommended to us that we switch to 2% when DS was 2yrs old. This is the first time I heard kids up to 5 should be drinking whole milk?

Whole milk is 4% milkfat, so 2% is a reduced fat version.

Please contact the cruise line to find out exactly what they carry. We find that most foodservice companies carry whole, 2% and non-fat chocolate. If Disney's supplier offers something different which you will need, see if they can provide it for you or if you need to bring your own.

edited to add: Would it be possible to add chocolate syrup, or chocolate milk mix to the white milk if they don't have the chocolate milk variety you need?

Best wishes for a wonderful trip!

We do a ton of interviews with Doctors on my newscast, and you really do get a variety of opinions, but staying with whole milk until "school age" has been pretty consistent among the so called experts, then non-fat milk from about five on.
HOWEVER, the public schools here only sell whole milk lunches....think the law requires it to be whole milk in elementary schools.
Maybe it's different here in California, but every carton/bottle of chocolate milk I've picked up recently here is made with either non-fat of 1%. Used to be all 2%.
Any Canadians on the board? Used to be the only kind of milk you could buy there was whole milk, "cream milk" (basically half and half) and cream.
My cousins used to come down here and pour a glass of non-fat milk and wonder what was wrong with it!!!

IDK what kind of milk the chocolate milk is onboard, but my kids have 1% milk at home & didn't have a problem drinking the chocolate milk every morning & every night at dinner. :)

My pediatrician changed my kids to lowfat 1% or skim when they were 2. He said that they need fat but not the high saturated fat content in the milk. I do agree that there is a big difference of opinion in this. I know that the WIC program in NY will only let its participants buy 1% or skim milk for the children and adults on the program. I believe that this is regulated by doctors and dieticians.

We never had a problem on our last cruise with the room "coolers" keeping our milk and other drinks cold enough. Our servers every night would bring us 2 cartons of chocolate and 2 cartons of white milk to take back to our room with us. we never even had to ask.

Canadian here, and we have all kinds of milk. As long as I can remember too. We ourselves drink 1%.

are there fridges in all the staterooms? or someplace to keep drinks cold?

Yes, sort of.....they are not real fridges by definition but they are converted mini bar coolers. We have always found them to keep things nice and chilled, though some report theirs have not gotten cold enough.

I think it varies by individual stateroom but for the most part, they keep things cold enough. Plus, you can always ask your stateroom host to keep the ice bucket filled

Is it chocolate milk or white milk with chocolate syrup? :confused3 I don't know how mine can tell, but if it is white with the syrup, he will not drink it!

Disney told me it was okay to bring my own milk if i needed too. Planning on purchasing a small softside cooler with wheels. Buying my milk and some ice prior to boarding and wheeling it on as we get on ship.

I'm assuming their choclate milk is chocolate milk and not syrup. I'm not taking the chance! Because i would have 1 cranky kid to deal with for 4 days! :rotfl2: : :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

DO NOT bring ice onboard with you....DCL will let you bring milk, but unfortunately they do not let you bring ice in your cooler onboard...I think they are worried about leaking, messes and slips/falls, etc.

If you purchase your milk right before getting to the port it will not spoil by the time you get onboard...and then you can go right to deck 9 and put some ice in your cooler if you need to before you get to your room.

I know the choc. milk at topsider is in those small single serve containers, but not sure what kind they serve in the dining rooms...I have had it but can't remember.

You can get cartoons of single serve chocolate milk that do not need to be refrigerated in many grocery stores. No need for ice until you get them onboard and then can refrig so they will be cool to drink.

My DD13 and myself are "milk pigs" - we LOVE milk! Don't worry there is plenty of milk to confiscate - in the cartons - and take back to your room. We have never had a problem with the refrigerators keeping our milk cold.

The chocolate milk comes in the cartons. You do not have to add syrup. We would take a few cartons after our breakfast at Beach Blanket Bingo and then we would have them with our snack at night. Also, if you order cookies from room service you can get milk from there! Then at the drink station there is milk next to the Mickey pool - you have to put it in a cup but it is there 24 hours a day!

Some people need coffee or Coke in the morning - I need my milk! I know where the milk is on the ship at all hours of the day -
:cool1:

Hope this helps -
Jean

I love milk too! Everytime I see this thread, I need to go get a glass. Yum. On our last 2 cruises, they had whole milk, 1%, non-fat and chocolate (unsure the %fat in this). We drink so much milk in our family, the *free* milk for a week went a long way in helping to offset the cruise costs. :flower:

Since you do qualify for a medically necessary refrigerator, it might be worth it to have guest services exchange your room cooler for a fridge. On our first cruise, our cooler would not have been able to keep milk cool enough. And since the rooms are on the small side, it would be more convenient to tuck the milk into the fridge and put away your cooler.

Have fun,
Jennifer

My daughters Dr switched her to 1% by the time she was 2. He said she did not need all that fat in her diet (she was not a fat kid either, she was off the bottom of the growth chart in the under 5th percentile her whole life)

Your doctor is like most. My childrens' pediatrician, and the American Academy of Pediatrics, recommend that children drink lowfat milk after turning 2.
