We are packing for our March 28 Magic cruise and my DH is undecided about taking his dress blues for formal night. Do you see many military uniforms formal night or not?

Thanks.

My DH too. He said he'd wear his dress blues verse a tux. Are you Navy? Have fun on your cruise!

There are usually a few military uniforms....a few more tux.....lots of suits....and some more casual. Your husband should wear whatever he is most comfortable in.

On our past cruises we have allways seen at least one gentleman in a Military Dress Uniform on formal night. And they look wonderful!!!! I say he should wear his if that is what he wants to do. Have a wonderful time.

He is in the Army. On our last cruise 4 years ago RCL he wore his uniform and someone thought he was the Capt of the ship. Too funny

Just a reminder if he does wear his Dress Blues make sure he has a squadron coin available. I wore my Dress Blues on our first cruise (and plan to again in May) and I forgot to bring my "coin". During dinner, 2 separate servers came up to me and "coined" me. Those of you in the military know the tradition, needless to say that mistake cost me a few dollars that night.

By all means he should wear it. IMO men in uniforms look heavenly- much better than tuxes!

I look forward to meeting your family on the cruise (only 9 more days:yay:  ). IMHO he should wear the uniform. I am sure he is proud of serving his country, and I am sure he will get many well deserved thank yous while in his uniform.

By the way, my twins (DS6 & DD6) will be in the OC with your DD7 (unless you move her up), and my DD13 will be in OQ with your DS11. Are you on early or late dining?

I say go for it. We love to see men and women in uniform... gives us the opportunity to thank them for their service.

Does anybody think taking the uniform onboard a security risk? Is anyone getting security briefings from their bases prior to leaving?

Ah yes, the things you have to think about.....the uniform would be in the luggage when boarding/disembarking. Since it would only be worn while on the ship (not in port), my logic would be that there would not be a risk.

Obviously, if your command tells you differently, go with their advice.

And my DD will think he looks "hot!"

We have main dining, had been waitlisted for second and just got changed. DD 7 will be in with your twins, no plans to try and move her up. DS 11 is looking forward to the freedom of being in Ocean Quest. All of us are excited!

I never heard of a waitlist for late dining. Must be a pretty full ship.

Yes, you should be getting a briefing from your command before going on any cruise. You may not think about it, but you are leaving the country and with that certain rules apply. Make sure any of you military people follow the proper procedures for taking leave (liberty) outside of the US. If something happens and you did not follow the proper procedures, you could be in some hot water.

DH wears his Mess Dress. it has 2 jackets.. Black and white. for the night he wore the white one he was mistaken for crew., by passengers and crew alike. In fact right now I am TRYING to get the darn things updated( he gets promoted on the 1st) but finding Navy baubles on an Army base is proving to be..problematic....and of course he WOULD be deployed right now so i can't make HIM deal with it hehehehe

since DH is an Information Warfare Officer he does need to 'clear' his itinerary before he leaves and take the online Anti terrorism course. he has taken that thing so darn much he quotes it verbatim....

the only time he gets outshined is by an Enlisted Marine in Full dress or a kilt... heheheh

My DH always wears his. I love a man in uniform!:lovestruc Just be prepared to be delayed. Every old sailor wanted to share his "sea stories" and then there are the ladies swooning and the many people wanting to shake your hand and say thanks. You know, the stuff that reminds us why we do this! Have a great time! Anchors Away!

agreed.. and he didn't buy a single drink all night....

what was really cute was the little kid( yes carnival allows children in their fee restaurant) ask all awed and shy like if DH was the Captain....

I just like showing him off. and he gets back from this deployment just before the cruise so he'll want to be reminded that he really is in the Navy after spending 8 months playing with the Army and their toys heheheh

Also wanted to add: the formal nigh pics make GREAT family holiday gifts! especially for parents and grandparents who complain that they don't get enough ....
