Military Tickets vs. Annual Passes

I cannot find a straight answer to what I thought would be a simple question -
The Disneyland military salute 3-day hoppers - can they be upgraded to an annual pass? MWR said no but honestly, they didn't even know about the hotel discounts, so I'm asking around. Various websites say yes you can but I'm curious if anyone did it here. I'm so happy they have this deal for us but a little bummed that it's limited to just 6 tickets.
Also, my spouse is deployed, I know I can get the tickets for myself and my daughters, but can I get a 3 day military ticket for my mom too? (she will be with us) we're only going for 2 days but the 3 day military hopper one is cheaper than the 2 day one... Thanks in advance!

You can get up to 6. It doesn't have to be immediate family, so yes you can get one for your mom.

Regarding the AP's, I'm not sure if you can upgrade or not, but if you did, they would only apply $129 toward the price, so you wouldn't get any type of discount.

Thanks! That's what I meant, I'd like to apply the $ I spent on the salute tix to go to an annual, especially since we're doing the Tink race too and I know we'll be here in so cal for another year. I had tickets this summer and didn't upgrade to an annual because mwr said I couldn't, and then after the fact I read online that you could. Oh well.

One thing I want to make sure you know before you upgrade is that with the military salute tickets, the military member (or their spouse) HAS to buy tickets for themselves for the deal to work. For example, if you have an AP and your mom comes next year and your spouse isn't with you, you would NOT be able to purchase tickets for her because you'd have your own AP. Same thing for your kids. Now, if you have AP's but your husband doesn't, then next time he can buy a salute ticket and buy another one for friends or family, but at least one of the tickets has to be for the service member (or spouse).

The Spouse or member has to be at the gate the first time the tickets is used. While they don't always check subsequent times through the turnstiles, during our last trip, the CM check IDs.

The military tickets don't have the regular 14 day expiration date. So if you aren't able to upgrade, and you only use 2 of the 3 days, you can still use the 3rd day in January.

I called Disney and they said no, because the military tickets are a special rate, they are not eligible to upgrade to an AP.
