Military Salute and Magic Key

I have scoured the internet and this forum and have found nothing to answer my question. I’m hoping SOMEONE might be able to help!

We have a DVC trip in May, and are bringing friends and kids with us, to share our 2 BR villa. We upgraded our tickets to keys last fall, but are able to get military tickets for our friends. My husband, who is the military member, does not need a ticket since we have the keys. Is he able to activate the other tickets for our friends at the gate, regardless?

We actually do have 2 military tickets in our names that we got last year (that’s another story) but would like to not have to have him activate it for one day, JUST so we can get our friends in.
They always say one ticket needs to be for the military member, but it makes no sense to waste a use day on the ticket unnecessarily...

No, he can activate theirs and use his magic key. The rule is that one of the 6 salute tickets purchased must be for the active duty member, not that one of the tickets USED must belong to the active duty member.

We purchase and activate military salute tickets all the time as pass holders. My husband hasn't actually used one in like 10 years. We activate them for visiting family and friends.

Awesome, thank you! We use the salute tix all the time ourselves, but this is the first time we have passes, so we weren’t sure how that worked. We’re in NorCal so we don’t get to use our passes often… if we’re able to keep the 2 tix we already have, we should be able to upgrade them should we decide to keep passes, correct?

Have you used the 2 salute tickets you have yet? If not, just give them to your guests and have them give you the money for them. Until they are used, they are not assigned to anyone in particular.

You cannot use tickets towards a renewal, I don't think, just a new pass purchase, so if you already have passes, you will have to let them expire and then use those tickets to apply towards a new pass. This won't be problematic unless you want a pass level that they are no longer selling.

We have not used them yet. They were actually our backup plan for our last trip, in case we couldn’t get park reservations with keys, since we had such a long trip, and only have enchant keys, so just 4 res at a time.

We did plan to try to link our tickets to my friend’s app today, but I didn’t know if it would be a problem since I already have them linked/names assigned to them in my app? I figured we would just scan the barcode and see. We don’t have a physical paper or anything, it was quite the ordeal to get them while we were at the park last time, haha… we couldn’t get to Pendleton that day, and were told to call an AFB in Colorado, and they emailed a link to scan them from. I can’t access the link anymore, so all I have is the tix that are saved in my app, along with our keys.

I’ll try to scan the one with my name first, and if it works, then the other. 2 less we need to order, we’ll need 5 total.

At this point, we think we’re gonna let our passes expire and just use the salute tickets going forward. With DVC, we don’t need parking if we stay on points, discount is the same, and we don’t really visit often enough to warrant a higher pass.
We have one more trip planned in Sept with our passes, so we’ll get our use out of them…
