Military Room Discount question

Can somebody shed some light on the military room discounts? I'm trying to help a family member find the best deal for their upcoming trip. Currently, they're booked as a regular package (using the 15% room discount available to the public) in a room at a Value, standard dining plan, and park hopper tickets.

They didn't realize that there was a special military park hopper ticket available so right there would save them over $500. When I looked a little deeper, it appears there's also a room only discount they could use as well. I think they really want the dining plan so, here are my questions:

1. Can they book a room using the military discount, buy the military ticket special, but still add the dining plan? It wouldn't be the typical package available to the public so I was unsure if they could still add the dining without buying tickets as part of the package.

2. Also, what are the payment rules for this? They're under the impression they have to pay everything up front but I don't think that's true- they can just buy the tix at the gate and just pay the room/dining within a certain number of days out from their trip....right?

Thanks in advance. I'd hate to see them pay what they're already booked for when I have a strong hunch they can save a fair amount of money.

They can definitely book the Military Room Discount, buy the Military Discount tickets and still get the Dining Plan. We have done this several times with no problems.

The Military tickets (4 day Salute tickets or other Discount tickets for more days)can be bought at their MWR before leaving for their trip or at Shades of Green once they arrive. Both these options do not include tax. They can also get their Military tickets (Salute tickets) at Disney Guest Services upon arrival but will pay sales tax on these.

The room and dining plan are booked through Disney and I believe have to be paid by 45 days but this is the one piece I am not 100% on. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong on this.

You're awesome - thanks for the confirmation so far. I am obviously not military so some of the discounts weren't familiar to me, but I knew there was no way they should be paying over $1200 for tickets for 3 people!

Yes, my TA has booked my military rate Disney hotels rooms many times. No issues.
