Do the active military and reserves get discounts at all the resorts.....Just trying to go the cheapest way possible....If we can get a value resort cheaper than the E-4 rate at SOG then thats what we will do...Also with the MYW packages is a military discount offered for that?.....Thanks in advance

For what you get at SOG, you can't do better than the E-4 rate. You're basically getting a deluxe room for Value Price. There may be a code for a Value for cheaper, but it will be minimally and you will regret not getting the big room at SOG. Also, buy your tickets through your military base or SOG, no taxes.

For the past 3 years, there have been great military rates (40% off rack rate) for the resorts as well as the free 5-day PH for active duty..........but not so this year! At least not yet. I've called about once a month since Nov and the CMs keep saying "nothing yet".

Hoping they will come on line with some military rates when they release codes for APs?

(Free admission to SeaWorld and Busch GArdens, by they way)

Last I saw, only the Swan and Dolphin offer a military discount. SOG is definitely worth it for the money. Rooms are large and it's on site right across from the Polynesian and the TTC. For the size of the rooms and the location, you can't beat any rate at SOG. We're staying there this fall at the O-6 rate and it's still 1/3 the cost of staying at another Deluxe Resort. SOG is considered a Deluxe. The rooms have two queen sized beds (not doubles) and a pull out sofa (sleeps one if I remember correctly). The last time we stayed there we had 12 and 14 year olds and our 12 year old slept on the pull out rather than share with his 6 ft tall brother. The breakfast buffet is only about $7/person and it's standard eggs, bacon, sausage, french toast variety type buffet. Varies from day to day, but for the money, very good. We feel what we save on a room can go towards something else.

Is this all the same for reserves....My brother in law is going with us and he is a reserve....does he still get the Military rate plus the free Sea World/Busch Gardens tix's.....Can he get a room for my family too?

I think if he has a Military ID he is eligible. Now if he doesn't you are eligible to reserve up to 3 rooms so he can still stay at SoG with you. Also remember you don't pay tax on your room at SoG either. you really can't beat the price for what you are getting. SoG or your local MWR is where you can get the discounted tickets. I haven't seen Disney do another Military Salute since 2003

He is eligible for SOG and also for the Busch Gardens/SeaWorld offer as long as he is an ACTIVE reservist.

He just got back from active duty but now is only doing his 1 weekend a month thing....I am not Military but his family was gonna travel with us and I do all the planning I thought if we can take advantage of the Military rates we might as well do it right....My family goes every year and he always buys our tickets from the base for us.....How does the free Sea World/Busch Gardens tix work....Do they show ID at the gate or does he get them from the local base?

he's still eligible for sog....he can get up to 3 rooms at sog & it's worth it bc they are bigger than at the contemp....inactive reserves don't get it...but i can't figure out why someone would be inactive reserves anyway...
amie

People do inactive reserves for the retirement which is based on points (active duty including drill time). So, going inactive to complete your 20 years will just give you a lower retirement income at age 60 than doing the regular reserve duty. My DH is a reserve O-6 and has fortunately been in drill pay for his 20 years of reserve time (4 years active). We love SOG and the discounted tickets make it that much better.

Sorry for all the questions about this topic....just trying to understand what he can and cannot do....So he can get us the room at SOG, He also might get a lower rate at the other resorts, He can still get the discounted tickets, but are the the old style tix or the new MYW tix.....Also we are not sure about the free Sea World/ Busch Gardens Tix or how he goes about getting those if eligible....Can anyone help on the last couple issues and I promise I will try not to ask anymore questions.... :flower:

Here's the info for the Busch Gardens military offer ~~

Any active duty, active reserve, ready reserve service member or National Guardsman is entitled to free admission under the Here's to the Heroes program. He or she need only register, either by registering at the
Busch Gardens' web-site and submitting his or her information or in the entrance plaza of participating parks, and show a Department of Defense photo ID. As many as three direct dependents of military personnel also are entitled to free admission. Dependents may take advantage of the offer without their service member, though an adult must accompany minor dependents.

At $72/night for an E-4, I wouldn't even think of considering another resort. You MIGHT get a little bit cheaper rate at a value resort (but consider that the SOG charges no taxes whereas the value resort will have about 11% taxes), but much nicer accomodations and location at SOG.

The rates for tickets are a little bit cheaper than buying from Disney, considering the taxes. See:
