Military question for the spouces.

All true. We are OCONUS but not overseas. We get COLA, have regular United Concordia dental (he'll have to sign her up for it, about $9 a month), she can use Tricare Prime on base or at Tripler AMC.

Do they have pets? Please say they don't LOL. The quarentine is a killer here. And they need to ship cars and household good ahead of time, 3-6 weeks is the ave for getting your stuff.
We absolutely LOVE it here, we are doing back to back tours. :woohoo:

Yes they have atleast one that we know of. Not sure if he has anything or not. How much are they charging? I know when we took Dom and Tasha to Panama, 16 years ago, it's wasn't a budget killer and was only for a week.

We told her, that they should expect to be waiting about a month to a month and a half for the household goods and car. What is gas running over there? They are planning on taking her big pickup truck.

It has been years since I was in the army. I would think twice about signing anything over to her if he plans to make the army his career. If this affects his ability to get a degree it would affect his promotability in the future. In my day it was rare to have a degree. now it is rare not to have a degree.

If he is going to make it a career he can use tutition assiatnce while he is active duty and not touch his gi bill and they pay last I knew 100%:confused3

My husband is in school now (AD AF) and is getting 100% tuition paid without using his GI Bill

Yes, but there is a yearly cap for tuition assistance for active duty.

Gosh, gas is I think about $3.30 a gallon right now. If they are bringing a big truck they are fine but they need to keep in mind the island has small parking spots (for some reason, makes me nuts LOL.)

The quarentine is 180 days at the kennel, unless you do it ahead of time (starting 180 days out from your arrival) and now the military pays some fees.

Twenty two years ago I was engaged to DH who was in the military and we had an August wedding planned. In the middle of March he received orders to report to Hawaii in five weeks! We had to have a "quickie" wedding in order to get me added to his orders so that they would pay for the flight over and a household goods shipment. Had we waited till August, and had DH come back for the wedding, then all the financial costs would have been on us, not to mention we wouldn't get the full weight allowance.

If I remember correctly, we got married on a Saturday. On Monday morning Dh put in for the orders to be amended. We got amended orders on Wednesday and had the household goods picked up on Friday. (we had already made that appointment prior and they agreed to schedule the pickup with the understanding that if we didn't have amended orders, we would be footing the bill) We left town on Saturday and drove across country to ship the car out of California. We did this because the delivery time was shorter if you shipped from the west coast and we didn't want to have to rent a car for very long.

That was an exciting time for us and it was a great adventure!

DH is AD Army. They paid for his Bachelors (ROTC) and his first Masters degree (taught at West Point for 3 years to pay that back). He applied to have them pay for his 2nd Masters but was turned down so we are footing the bill for that and for work towards his PhD (which they would have paid for but that pushed us 6 years further past our projected retirement date). DH is saving the GI Bill for one of the kids or for me to use to finish up the last year of my degree.

My DH just put in to transfer his GI Bill to me. We didn't really agree on it. I wanted to save it for my oldest but his way of thinking was that if I finish my Masters we will have more money to put all three kids through school. Here's hoping all goes well with it!:)

Good luck! :thumbsup2 DH keeps pushing me to finish my degree. The field I have been in for the past 20 years hasn't required it but the posts we have been to lately haven't had anything remotely close to my field and finding work in other areas has been futile without a degree.

Thanks. I am working on my Master Social Work so hopefully I can get a job
