My fiance who is currently in the ARMY keeps telling me that since they have a govt issued ID they would not need a passport if they were to travel. Is this true? It does not really make much sense, but if it's the case, that would cut costs for a passport to be issued for him

Even if the Army ID isn't enough, he just needs a certified copy of his birth certificate (not nearly as much as a passport and a lot faster to get) to cruise .

Hope this helps.

My hubby is a retired marine..and yes, that used to be the way it was. Hubby and I were just talking about that the other day..since our daughter is air force, wondering if that was still the rule.

You don't need a passport for a disney cruise anyway.

If a military person is travelling on official military orders, a passport may not be required for entry into certain countries (depending on agreements between the governments of those countries and the U.S. government), and will not be required for reentry into the U.S. That being said, I'm not sure that there are many military people traveling on DCL on official military orders. Military vacationers on DCL would fall under the same requirements as any other U.S. citizen: a certified birth certificate with a government issued photo ID (to include a state issued driver's license or U.S. military ID card), or a valid U.S. passport.

My understanding is exactly waht dcandmc just stated.

Military travelling out of country for personal reasons generally do need to have their passports or birth certificates with ID.

Finally a question on this board I can answer instead of just soaking up the information. YEAH :o) Anyways, doesn't matter if it military or not. Everyone needs a birth certificate with a raised seal on it and a picture ID, which can be a military ID. I know this because I was just at my travel agency on post asking this question. If you can travel in Sept they have a wonderful discount going on.

Good luck,
Tina

Passports are always best.

No, you need a passport/birth certificate. My passport is still in my maiden name, so I carry my marriage license, passport, and mil id to prove I'm the same person. But they won't take just the mil id.
