I was just wondering. From those of you who have adults who own these types of outfits, do they wear them on formal night? My husband wore his US Army Mess Blues (hot, hot, hot) on our recent 7 Night Western formal night. I kind of enjoyed the extra attention from other cruisers, especially since he was on his mid-tour r&r from Iraq. The ships captain greeted him with 'sir' and lots of veterans struck up conversations with him. I only noticed one other gentleman in this type of outfit. A firefighter in his formal attire...

We have had other military friends take cruises and choose not to wear uniforms, so as to blend in. Anybody have thoughts on this?

Probably a thread that will die instantly, but I was just curious. We can't have been the only military family on board.

We are not a military family but will be traveling with one in July. The dad is contemplating bringing his dress uniform. I think all in any of these positions look fantastic in their uniforms and should proudly wear them. We all applaud you for all that you do.

Oh no, we have seen several people in their uniforms on the ship. I for one, think it's wonderful! Something to be very proud of!!:thumbsup2

DH doesn't have a choice. I MAKE him wear Dinner Mess Dress. Quite often he is not the only one in uniform, although most do not wear DMD. Only once was he confused for a member of the ship's crew..

The Navy DMD has two different Jackets, the black one for Winter and the White one for Summer. as the cruise was before Uniform Changeover he brought both and wore one to each formal night. on the night he wore the white jacket he was mistaken as crew..by CREW!!!!

My husband is in the Air Force and chose not to wear his Mess Dress on the cruise. He doesn't feel comfortable with the extra attention he gets when he wears it. It makes him feel self conscious or as if he's looking for attention. He's very particular about where he wears his uniform on a daily basis anyway. I suggested that maybe he could wear it on the cruise knowing there was no way he would do it :)

On my last cruise a young Marine was waring his mess dress and his father had his crest out so far with pride. You can help but stand a little taller when you see a man or women in uniform. Be proud and wear it.

My dad is a proud Marine vet and he usually wears his dress uniform on formal nights on his various cruises. I have never seen dress police or fire uniforms onboard...only military uniforms.

My dad is the same way (except in the Army). I suggested he wear his Mess Dress (plus the fact that he doesn't have a tux) on our cruise last December and shot that down pretty quickly.

My husband is also Air Force and feels the same way. He'd rather blend in and not draw attention to himself and what he does for a living. He hates wearing his flight suit to lunch or anywhere because people are always talking to him. We live in a fairly small city in Texas, and most people are very supportive and say thank you and such if they see him in uniform. In other cases he has had people come up to him to make comments about their opposition to the war. Both situations make him uncomfortable. He'd rather just blend in and escape military life while on vacation.

My DH would also rather blend in...but you can see who wins that conversation!

Uniform arm candy is one of the perks of my crazy life! The captain even invited us to a private tour of the bridge after talking to DH on formal night.

We've always cruised in March (black jecket season). Our next cruise is in summer (white jacket), he will look like a DCL officer!

It is up to each individual if they wish to wear their uniform or not, but personally I think it is very smart. :cool2: Besides, what gal can resist a man in uniform? ;)

I can see both sides though - some wish to wear their uniforms with pride and others are on vacation from their service and therefore do not want to draw attention to what they do. :hippie:

I say, do whatever you feel comfortable with and enjoy your vacation! :goodvibes

I agree with last post, but i DO LOVE A MAN IN A UNIFORM, ESP AIR FORCE, and women for that matter, my gran was amzing in her youth in her air force uniform, me hubby wore a kilt the last time and he got serious lot of attention, he was uncomfy with it,which made me uncomfy, dont know if he will wear it next time, Lynne

Thank you Thank you for the wonderful idea! I myself have now choosen to bring my Fire Department Dress uniform. I have wanted to get a picture of Mickey and I and now it will happen. Ill post the picture when we return on the 13th from Florida! As for fitting in. I love talking to and meeting new people. There is nothing better then making a new friend that shares the same values and enjoys the same relaxing vacations. CANT WAIT to see eveyone next saturday!@:disrocks: :mickeyjum :mickeyjum :mickeyjum :mickeyjum

Sk8tingmon: they do look yummers don't they! best investment we ever made was hitting the Thrift store and getting both jackets cheap. It actually cost him more to dry clean and get the right number of stripes put on than it cost for both Jackets!

Have a ball and can't wait to see the photos!!!

My Dh is in the Army. He really wants to wear a tux on the cruise because he always wears a uniform and would like to do something different. I'd love for him to wear his Blues but I may let him have his way. This time. ;)

By the way, my DH was home on his mid-tour (well, technically it was 8 months into the deployment) in January and we went to WDW. To celebrate the tour's completion we're cruising in September. Looking so forward to it!!

Best wishes to your family!

Kristen
