Military Mess/Dress, Police or Firefighter Formal Dress

I know it's a personal choice and some people aren't comfortable with the attention, but personally I enjoy seeing the uniforms on formal night. And why not get the extra attention? You've earned it through whatever form of service you've given.

My DH and I were talking about this during lunch. I am hoping that he will wear his Class A uniform (he's a deputy sheriff) on our EBPC cruise. I've always wanted to get pics of the two of us with him wearing that.

Mess Dress was our ticket to an invitation to the bridge on more than one occasion...ditto dinner at the Captain's Table (on ships that still did this)

On more than one ocasion I was asked to dance when the invitation to dance with the crew was open ... but on the other hand I was asked when standing with the Master, why I had medals and he didn't :confused3

It is a cheap cheating way to try to wiggle into special perks....and it worked for me on SEVERAL occasions.

Disney, Princess, Commodore, Costa .....

otoh.....check yur uniform regs.....concerning the wear of the uniform off duty out of the US

Oh I think that would make a grand picture! Look forward to seeing you two!!

I think it is a really personal decision. Your DH enjoyed the attention he got, as he should, but other people may not be too keen on it. It is totally appropriate either way. Hope your DH is home safe with you soon, if not already.

Happy Cruising, my DH is a FF also and I have told him that he should whare his uniform on the cruise. He thinks that it is only for the military. I look forward to see your pictures. Has anyone else seen Fire Fighter/Police in dress uniform on the Cruise???

Not passing judgment, but I think some of the word choice is interesting here - many people in some services feel strongly they are "in" the military or they it is something they "do" and so they tend to maybe want to escape it for vacation. I am a former Marine and I guess the mentality that was - bred - into us is that we ARE Marines - we are not "in" the Marines. I think that mindset may make a difference and I'll go out on a limb and guess that most Marines would opt to wear their uniforms. I always chose to wear my dress uniform, as did my husband, unless I was "in" the wedding or something like that. We really didn't have that many options to wear our dress uniforms, to tell the truth, other than the Marine Corps birthday, occasional change of command that were dress, and so if we got the legitimate chance, we took it.

Again - not saying one approach is right or wrong - I just think there's a subtle mindset difference.

Our dispatchers wear their own uniforms, which consist of dark navy (look black) polyester uniform pants and a white (nightmage color) polyester uniform shirt. Our folks wear a badge, looks just like mine except that it says PSD I instead of police officer. The public rarely see our folks. Thank you folks for all you do, I would not have your job.

My husband is in the Air Force and chose not to wear his Mess Dress on the cruise. He doesn't feel comfortable with the extra attention he gets when he wears it. It makes him feel self conscious or as if he's looking for attention. He's very particular about where he wears his uniform on a daily basis anyway. I suggested that maybe he could wear it on the cruise knowing there was no way he would do it :)

This is also how my husband thinks :)

Never seen Police or FF on cruises on 3 different lines.
My humble opinion-
ACTIVE Military, fine, in fact I'd encourage it

Retired Military? You're RETIRED, enjoy being a civilian (except USMC, Semper Fi - but still enjoy your retirement)

Police and Fire? No way. Stick to ceremonies and parades, thank you.
(And, yes, I've been in uniformed services over the years. Never even occurred to me to use the dress uniform as a "formal" outfit other than official functions - especially now that I'm RETIRED<grin>)

So, please, no flames (bad pun intended), this is just MY opinion.

Hm....
The top design is very unique, and i cant find any like that.
Here are some, though, that are red halter floor lenghthers.

I agree with last post, but i DO LOVE A MAN IN A UNIFORM, ESP AIR FORCE, and women for that matter, my gran was amzing in her youth in her air force uniform, me hubby wore a kilt the last time and he got serious lot of attention, he was uncomfy with it,which made me uncomfy, dont know if he will wear it next time, Lynne

Well I might wear it, many vets in the States wear the uniform even after discharge from the Services although it's unusual to do so in the RAF. We are allowed and we actually buy our mess kit at more than £400 years ago. The Serving guys should and wear it proudly.

I could wear a kilt.

Are you guys still doing the transatlantic,:woohoo:

Kilts are great, the more the merrier, we could have a photo shoot!

Besides, what gal can resist a man in uniform? ;)

not me!!
i'd say go for it, and thanks to all that wear that uniform and do all they do to make our world a safer place :worship:
