We are wanting to plan a trip Dec 23-26 2008 to DisneyWorld. We have been talking about it for a while now & my hubby will be heading to Iraq after the 1st of the yr for a long time this time. I thought this would maybe take the kids minds off daddy leaving.

We have been there a few times & have stayed at the Shades of Green (which is booked up) & a hotel near the Disney Village. I was not impressed with that hotel at all. We had to move 2 times because of bugs. :(

I was wondering about any discounts that hotels give to active duty personal. I have contacted the Shades of Green for there over flow but, have not heard back from anyone.

Any help would be appriecaited.................we were wanting to stay very close to Disney.
Thank you Jackie :)

I am going to move this to the Resorts Forum. You might also want to check out our United We Stand forum to get advice and support from other millitary families: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=87

Bless you, your family and your husband for all you do for us! :)

If you are looking to stay off property the Orlando hotels board would be a better place to ask your questions. I am sure if you are looking for someone on property the experts will be along shortly to help you.

As far as I know, from what I've read, WDW resorts do not offer any military discount. I remember reading that the Swan and Dolphin have government/military discounts. You're going at a very busy time of year and booking later than most people do. We always book SOG 10+ months out. This year we booked about a year out and we're not going at a super busy time, but it will still be almost fully booked while we're there. I'm not sure how the overflow bookings work for SOG, but there is probably a limit of some kind on how many rooms they can get. There are several people who have had overflow rate and have used discounts at the Swan and Dolphin so I'm sure you'll get more feedback soon.

You said you have contacted SOG about overflow, does that mean you emailed them? Call them and talk directly to someone because if you emailed them it could be several days before they respond. Calling them should get an immediate answer.

I havae not found the SOG overflow rates to be a very good deal... and also if my memory serves me right you can't get disney dining if you are on a sog overflow... or use DME... you actually book thru SOG ... you might be better looking at a disney package.....

The Swolphin offers military discounts but they may not be available at that time. SOG doesn't always get back to people quickly, I'd keep trying with them at least to be wait listed. With this economy who knows what will open up. Good luck here and on the deployment!
