For the past few years, there have been resort discounts at WDW.

40% off deluxe
35% off moderate
30% of values

The current discount goes through the end of September, with hopes that it will be renewed for 2015 sometime this summer.

Also, look into Shades of Green. A resort only for military with prices based on rank.

We are a military family and we LOVE shades of green. My husband says he won't stay anywhere else, just for the simple fact that other service members seem to have the same respect and courtesies for others.
Not exactly Disney , but I just had our Chase Disney Visa rewards card interest dropped to 4% thanks to the SCRA I've built up over $300 in rewards on that card , now at a lower interest rate

Shades of Green seems like it costs quite a bit more than the value resorts... are there other benefits to staying there?

Much larger rooms, no sales tax on rooms, access to the monorail across the street at the Poly, etc. Go to the Resorts Forum and read the SOG thread.
