Military Discount Tickets

Nope, they have to be activated at the Guest Relations/ticket window prior to going to the gates/turnstiles, or they won't work.

Point remaining..they have to be activated on WDW property. You can't activate them from the military base where you purchase them. There's nothing to indicate that SilverMickey's sister lives near enough to WDW to be able to activate them prior to sending them to SilverMickey which would mean the sister (or her DH) would have to be able to be with SilverMickey at GR in order to activate them when they arrive for their trip.

ETA: When I said "park gates" I was meaning to reference the ticket windows...I used the wrong terminology, so I've updated my previous post to reflect that.

My family received a great but very not so great gift in the mail yesterday. I wanted to check here before I send this great gift back.

My sister and her husband wanted to help me and my family with our up coming trip. They said they wanted to give us Disney gift cards to go toward our ticket purchase. I thought GREAT!!!!!

Instead they have purchased these Military Discount Tickets. We are not in the military although everyone around us is. I asked if they had changed their mind and were they going with us to Disney and they answered "nope".

I told them that although they were very thoughtful and it was a wonderful gift... that either she or her husband would have to be there to activate them. Well they got very upset and told me that I didn't know everything and that I was wrong.

I would LOVE to be wrong. BUT am I right??? We can't use these tickets????
If the tickets are on a plastic card with a stylized flag on it and says Armed Forces Salute they must be activated at a Park (or DTD) ticket or Guest Relations window prior be use. Activation may only be done in person by someone with either an active or retired military ID, or a DD-1173 that indicates Spouse in the relationship field.

If they are on what appears to be paper card stock (actually they are a Tyvek mix) they are ready to go and do not require activation.

If the tickets are purchased at a WDW Ticket Window they are activated at the time of purchase. They will print out on regular Disney ticket stock and will have the name of the user printed on the ticket.

Please forgive me, I thought I had read that her sister had picked them up while at WDW, that's why I was thinking maybe thay had activated them, prior to gifting them.

I was just wondering how they do the blackouts for Armed Services Salute tickets? Does your ticket just get rejected at the gate entrance, or is there some other way they keep people from using those tickets on those specific days? :confused3 I assume they use the same system that they use for blackouts for Florida Resident passes and others like that. Just wondering how that system all works.

Can an unused activated military salute ticket be transfered or used by another family member?

I got two tickets activated in my name in December but I did not use all of my days on my 1st 4 day ticket so I would like to use those days on my next trip in May and let my DD use my 2nd ticket that has not been used but is activated.

Is this possible?:confused3

Thanks for everyone's help. I appreciate it. They are the Salute tickets that have the mickey. She is not going to be at Disney with us... however she will be in FL the previous week. Can she just pop over to Down Town Disney the week before we check in and activate the tickets for us even if we are not there yet?

Can they also purchase more tickets while activating ours if they chose to see the mouse? (And if that answer is yes can they purchase more for the rest of the family that may be there? (our 4 are purchased and in my hands, there are 2 of them and the family of 5 that they are visiting) (11 tickets total)

I should be able to figure this out on my own by reading the sticky. It is even bookmarked on my computer. Some how it is overwhelming me.

Thank you!

I believe that should be OK, but I'm not sure if all members of the party are required to be present at activation. Cheshire Figment should be able to answer this more definitively.

Your sister and her husband can purchase up to 12 tickets total. The following paragraph should address your question:

No more than twelve (12) Disney 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased, activated and/or used by any Eligible Service Member or spouse during the life of this promotion, and no Eligible Service Member or spouse may purchase, activate and/or use more than six (6) Disney 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets during any single week of the promotion. One (1) of the Disney 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets purchased on each occasion must be for use by the Eligible Service Member or spouse. This offer is for active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists and the U.S. Coast Guard.

So yes they can purchase up to 12 tickets, but no more than 6 of them can be used during any single week.

Also something to keep in mind is the last provision - each time your sister/DH buy these tickets, one of the tickets must be for use by one of them.

The thing with the AFS tickets is that they're meant to be used by the MM/MM spouse for themselves and their families...they weren't meant for the MM to give away to family members who were traveling w/o the MM/MM spouse.

No, the tickets are non-transferrable. If it hasn't been used, I'm not 100% sure, I would guess maybe they could change the name in the computer to your daughters name, as long as you are there.

She should have no problem going to DTD and activating the tickets for you. No, only 6 tickets can be activated in a one week period of time.

I think the tickets are only non-transferable if they've been used by someone. If no one has used the ticket yet, I can't see why you couldn't let someone else use it. As for the activation--it completely depends on who you get at the gate. Some CMs will let you activate tickets for people who aren't there and some won't.

The following was added yesterday to the official internal ticketing notice about the Armed Forces Salute Tickets:

"Guests may participate in this offer as often as they wish as long as no more than six (6) tickets are sold in each transaction."

So there is no longer any limit, although the number of tickets activated by a service member will still be tracked.

I realize there have been many posts regarding this, but I want to be sure. We are going down in April (family of 6) and would like to have the option of going to the parks more than 4 days. This means we can purchase a 6 4-day park hoppers for 138 each, go out the door and return and purchase 6 more?? and they will be good until Sept. 30?

When did Cheshire post that? I think that was an old directive from 2011 that was almost immediately corrected to say that you can buy a total of 12 tickets only in 2011-2012. You're right, they must be used before Sept. 30. Not sure of the time frame between buying 2 sets of 6. Out of each group of 6, though, 1 must be used by the military member. If the serviceperson isn't going , you can activate only 5 tickets.

I'd be thrilled if we could buy more than 12 over the two year period, but I don't think that's correct.

The computer reads the ticket type when it is inserted in the turnstile. If it is blocked out for that Park the turnstile will say "access denied" on the Guest side, and on the Greeter side will indicate an invalid date and the ticket type.

Yes. Since there is no finger scan associated with the ticket it can be transferred. The only potential problem is if it has to be reissued and a wrong name shows up. But it will take the finger scan of the first user.

The quote from disneyfanjan was old and was superseded. The correct information is in Post #17 of the sticky.

We were able to activate 7 tickets at one time in December since DH has 6 dependents but we had to have proof of that (I think we had a DEERS form with us).

I contacted my sister and I'm sending the tickets back to her. She can use them with the family she is visiting in FL if she can't return them. (this is just to much stress for me and I don't feel right having them if they can't go with us)
At least I understand how they work now.

Thanks everyone!

.

Thank you for answering. :goodvibes:thumbsup2 I had hoped that we would be fine especially since I never used the ticket but it was already activated. I will be with her and the ticket does have my name on it so if we have a problem I hope we can work it out.

I lost my Salute tickets a while ago. Thankfully I called 1-407-W-DISNEY and they said that I can just get them reprinted at the gate. Whew.

If the tickets had been activated your demographic information is in the Automated Ticketing System and they can look up the ticket and reissue it. If you had the tickets purchased at a military base and not yet activated, you would have to have the serial numbers of the tickets,

If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in this Forum, especially Post #13, you can get a lot more information. An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature. The ticket sticky is your friend!

I am wondering if they are going to extend this past September 30th, we will be down Oct 26th - Nov 3rd. Anyone heard anything. I am otherwise going to buy APs for the kids by way of upgrading a couple of tickets with a day or so on them.

Have they implemented a way to check how many days are on a ticket yet ?

Who Knows What EVIL Lurks In The Heart Of Disney Marketing?!

When Disney feels ready to implement their next promotion they will do so. If other recent promotions have been any indication, for about the first month nobody will really understand it and the Marketing people will not have thought out all the ramifications.
