Military Discount Tickets Transferable?

DW and I are planning to visit WDW next December for 8 nights. Friends of ours will be visiting WDW the last 3 or 4 nights of our trip. One of our friends is eligible for military discount tickets. They have graciously offered to purchase our park passes using their discount, if that is allowed. I don't want to break any rules or ask my friends to do so just to save money. Can anyone tell me if military discounted tickets are transferable? Thanks.

Unless I am misreading your post, you are not asking about TRANSFERRING a ticket (that would be taking a ticket that had been assigned to someone else, and transferring it to another person.)

I think you are asking if a person who is eligible for the military salute tickets can purchase them for others. The answer to that is yes, but they must be WITH the others, to activate the tickets (which you would be).

The issue is that the military salute tickets are 4-day passes, and cannot be upgraded. So you would need to purchase your own tickets for the first 4 days, then use the salute tickets the last four. But a salute ticket costs $177, and the difference between a 4- and 8-day ticket is only $40.

So it's a nice gesture, but won't really help you.

There are two types of military discount tickets --

  • The Armed Forces Salute 4-day tickets, which are steeply discounted and tightly controlled. These tickets have to be activated at WDW in person by the military member with proper ID. Since you arrive earlier than your military friends, these tickets would be unavailable to you until your friends arrive at WDW.
  • The other ticket with available military discount is the Magic Your Way (regular WDW tickets) and Magic Your Way Stars and Stripes (length of stay tickets). The Stars and Stripes ticket begins with the start of your park visits and expires the day after the last park day is used up. It includes every option available at WDW and is priced accordingly. The regular Magic Your Way ticket is the same ticket as civilians buy for WDW park visits. The difference lies in the discount a qualified military purchaser can receive. Mostly, the discount is the lack of sales tax applied when purchased at a military base or military ticket sales outlet (such as Shades of Green in WDW). OP's military friends can purchase these MYW tickets in advance, say, at a military base -- and give them to their civilian friends to use. The MYW ticket has no name attached to it at time of purchase, so it's not actually a transfer. And the MYW ticket is already activated when purchased, so no further activation is required except to go thru a WDW park gate.
If the OP's military friends wish to purchase MYW tickets with a military discount for their friends to use prior to and during their stay, this is OK to do.
