Sorry if this has already been asked, but I couldn't find a definite answer, and I don't necessarily trust what the CM's on the phone say.

DS and his GF are going to WDW in late Dec. They were able to get a military discount for their resort room, but the military salute tickets offer cut off date is before their trip starts. They were able to get the discounted 4 day tickets from the base, and linked them to their magic bands and have picked fp+ and made adr's.

My question is do they have to activate them at guest services like with the salute tickets once they get there?
Also, we have gone to guest services at DTD on past trips to activate on arrival day, but they will be arriving late their first night, then have a breakfast adr the next morning at AKL before heading to AK. Does the magic band have to be linked before they can "claim" their adr? Where else beside DTD can they activate them?

Thanks!

1. Does the magic band have to be linked before they can "claim" their add?
2. Where else beside DTD can they activate them?

1. Nope. MBs have nothing at all to do with ADRs.
2. To activate tickets (or buy tickets, etc.) guests can go to any ticket booth or Guest Relations outside any park, or at TTC, or at either of two locations at Disney Springs (DTD.)

Since what they have are actually normal tickets, just discounted, they should not have to activate them, but I've never bought these so I don't know for sure.

Check this website to see if he answers your question, and if not, I think there's a place to ask:

Exactly what williamscm3 said. I just bought a military discounted ticket for one person in our party that we used the last week in October and didn't have to activate it all. I put it in my MDE assigned to the user and her MB and all was good. ;)

As long as they received the green card with a fab five character on it ticket and linked it to their magic band, they can just scan at the "turnstiles" and walk on in.

Edited for clarification.

Just to avoid confusion the salute tickets are green to, so as long as they are not salute tickets they don't need activation.

In my experience: If you buy the salute tickets at Disney and get a green card, then it's activated at the time you purchase it. If you purchase a salute ticket on base, you get a paper voucher and still need to go to guest services to have it activated.

Edited, because I googled the picture to remember what it looked like. I could have sworn the one I got was navy blue, but I do see a picture of green ones. But they were always paper right?

Salute tickets always need activation regardless were you buy them. Of course if you buy them at the park window they will activate them for you right away. I don't remember if they were always paper or if the have always been green. I know at least for the last two years salute tickets have been green. Discounted tickets are like every other tickets so those have fab 5 picture to them it seem that is what op has.

Yes, there is a green Minnie and a green Goofy card, so I guess they won't need activating.

Thanks for the help guys!

This is what our exchange certificate looks like. We bought it in September from our base ITT office, and will activate it at DS the first night of our December 7-12 trip.

Note that you are NOT limited to the locations listed on the front of the certificate to activate them. Any Guest Services will do, including Disney Springs.

And this is what my MDE looks like when I enter the number on the certificate (blacked out in the pic). I was able to make FP+ reservations 60 days out:
