Miley Cyrus celebrating b-day in CA Oct.5

missxjess, I know exactly what you mean. The website claims that tickets go on sale next saturday but there is absolutely no information as to what $250 per person gets them other than a special fireworks show and an introduction to some special kids. I think this has been thrown together very quickly as it was just announced.

DL closes early all the time for private parties. I guess they figure the first weekend in October will be the least crowded from then until the end of holidays so it would have the least amount of impact. Do I agree, no way. It definitely impacts me.

Even though there are limited # of tix going to be sold, if she's going to be performing (probably in front of the castle) how is everyone exactly going to see her? Unless they're going to have jumbo screens, but then it'd just be like going to her concert/movie but paying a whole lot more for it!

I think folks are forgetting that this is a charity event. Not just a party.

Any fund raiser that I've ever seen celebs (even local ones) at ran over $250 a plate. Or more. Problem is when you talk to vacationers spending their money in this hard economy, they want the value of every penny from their dollar.

Guess my point is that human nature causes us to be looking at this as some rich celebrity kid that has hijacked a vacation and not as a money raising event.

Since Disney is using Miley for the publicity and she goes along with it because of contract obligations, then we see that in the wrong light and blame goes to her. I think I personally would have crashed and burned to be under such strong magnifying glasses at her age! I

remember what I was like back then. I'm sure we could all use a dose of memory and self-reflection, before we criticize.... Anyone who went to the drive-in in the back seat without our parent's knowledge has no room to talk..... If we had her money, Lord only knows the trouble some of us would have gotten into!

We can't all be rainbows and sunshine all the time. Personally, I think she's an awful role model for young girls. And I think Disney is pretty lame for putting this party on during normal park hours.

I don't think she is that bad. You don't see her on TMZ stumbling out of a night club drunk. I don't think she is pregnant, and I haven't seen any pantyless crotch shots yet. What has she done wrong? The Vanity Fair shoot? You think she planned that? It was more likely her agent who dropped the ball. Don't blame her for shutting down Disneyland early, blame Disney!

If I was there on the 5th I'd be buying tickets for my DW and DD4. However I planned our trip to avoid the Gay Days crowds (because of their numbers not because they are gay) so sadly my daughter won't be going. :sad1:

Uh...speak for yourself.

I'm referring more to the racy photos that she put up online. And her writhing around on stage....it's just not really age appropriate dancing. And give it time...you'll see her stumbling out of clubs soon enough.

I wonder if Miley Cyrus is gay?

what? did you miss those "cell phone" pics she took of her half clothed for god knows who? plus there were alleged pics of her lying down on a bed/couch with a boy. oh, also the interview where she talked about one of the jonas brothers she dated and how she cried for a month after breaking up with him. ( i think it was nick).

anywho, what was really mean was when miley and her older friend made fun of demi lovato and selena gomez' youtube video. that was totally uncool.

my kids totally love miley/hannah, but they only have seen what's on the tv show.

I wasn't so bad - sure I did a few things, but boy did I witness other attrocities coming from others in the "popular" upper middle class crowd in the Lutheran High School I attended.... The binge drinkers and football team dopers, the pregnant pom squad girl, etc. Nothing different than anything Miley has done and some worse. Only back then, we didn't have as easy access for the "crimes" to get around on. Photos were passed around and torn up. 27,000 people didn't have access to download our mistakes.

That dancing - that's all choreographed. Yep - the entire show. Not her fault, she does it or she doesn't get paid. But then have you seen some of the moves that today's high school dance squads do that are considered competetive moves? Same thing, same age bracket. If Miley and her people say no, you can bet they will turn around and start up someone elses career - can you say Selena Gomez or Demi Novato? Look how Hilary Duff faded off.... It's the business.

Every decade, some adult cries about the scandalous things our teenagers do that makes them worse than the last decade. It goes as far back as the Middle Ages, where a man named Froissart chronicled the times. He complained about the youth in much the same way as we do now - almost similar types of phrases too. Remember, before Miley, there was Brittney, before her, Madonna, and before her ..... What about those white girls singing black music in the 60s... You get my drift.

Remember - it's a charity party. Money from it goes to help people. Miley's just the excuse and they way they get funds for it.

From everything I've read from Crazy/Sy - and there are a lot of posts, there is one wicked sense of humor going on!

I never thought I would actually find myself defending Miley in a public forum, but all I can say is High School Politics! Who hasn't sat in the lunch room and watched one table dissing the other across the way. Teenagers trash talk each other (in a mean way or a good way) all the time! They don't do it in front of adults usually, I mean, who wants to get busted by their parents for it, but it happens every day! It may have been over 20 years ago, but I remember how wicked high school could be. If you think that Miley doesn't know she could be replaced by those girls tomorrow.... rivalry happens in a competetive stable.

Nowadays, kids have different forums of that expression. Things get put up on You Tube, My Space, etc. Kids get hurt feelings, kids hurt others. Some have even died from it. I'm not saying it's right, but it's the way of the world and always has been. As adults, some of us forget as time passes, others will always remember so they can help their kids get through it.

Let's not forget about the Youth Volunteer charity that is benefitting from this!

;) If you are referring to the gay remark... I was just subtly alluding to the fact that Oct 5 is the last day of Gay Days in Disneyland. On the other hand, I wonder if kicking everyone out of Disneyland at 5:00pm on the last day of Gay Days is Disneyland's way of sticking it to the Gay Dayers? (No pun intended)

Mahalo! It does make you wonder that, since it is an unofficial event, but they wouldn't bite off the hand that feeds them a lot of money during the off season! Same with Bat Days a couple weeks later.

On the other hand (in a more tounge and cheek tone),many members of the G&L crowd does have a lot of disposable income for charity events staring their favorite divas! I wonder if they are counting on Miley becoming an iconic figure like Cher one day? (OMG - I forgot to include Cher in one of my previous posts featuring "there goes our youth" comparisons!) :rotfl2: (At least I can make fun of my own rants!)

All of the above aside, is anyone planning or thinking of going? We haven't mentioned it to DD yet. We're not sure. We would need to change a few plans around (but very do-able.) But it would be 3 tickets as it appears not just a concert and this would become our fireworks night. I'm leaning towards no, but I really don't know.

Part of the attraction to us is that we promised DD if we every had the chance to see her we would try to get tickets - Miley hasn't been to Australia yet and I don't think there are any plans for such.

If you can swing it, why not? We can't afford it and our daughters are really too young (even though the 3 yr old likes her - she's still only 3 and can't stay up that late). If they were 10 or so, sure - we would see what we could do!

My husband and I were talking about this last night and his comment was that if you had a kid that was old enough to be into celebrities, that $250 was cheap for a charity ticket like that here in Los Angeles! He figured that when all was said and done - Miley is likely to draw quite the celebrity crowd to that party, too. Who knows what other Disney Channel stars you would also get to see there? Probably the rest of the Hannah Montana crowd, maybe a bunch of the other teen Disney set, and who knows - with HSM3 being released shortly after.... Disney is big on red carpet synergy! All pure speculation, but consistent with what Disney has done in the past.

I understand that charity events can get very pricy. However, they should have done this event somewhere else OR choosen a different day/time. They could have done it during the weekday from 8pm-2am. They could still have their charity event and NOT have to kick thousands and thousands of us out 7 hours before normal closing time. (we arrive the 4th, our trip planned months before this was announced, our flights non-refundable :sad2: )

AMEN!!!!
That's why I'm peeved too.
I don't care if they want to do it at DCA or Gardenwalk or DL after NORMAL closing hours. But to cut down the only day we're going to be there by 7 hours is pretty mean.
It's Miley... they'll go wherever she has the concert. It doesn't have to be at DL or severely cut down the regular park visitors time.
And if they do, they should've announced it way in advance... not a month and a half before...:sad1:
Oh well... live and learn. Disney can pretty much do that... "hours are subject to change".

When I said "bad influence" I was referring to the photos she took, NOT the Vanity Fair spread. Maybe my high school was just different, but we did not have a single girl (or guy for that matter) who was pregnant, or a parent. Not saying everyone was perfect, but there were no pregnancies in my graduating class.

Taking those types of photos when I was in high school is the last thing I would have ever done. Evidentally my group was "not the norm" but we just weren't very lewd.:confused3

So, yes, I think the photos SHE took on her own were very inappropriate for her age.

They should have just held the party at DCA. It was scheduled to close at 8pm anyways. Maybe they didn't because the 5000 tickets that they are selling would have put DCA over capacity :lmao:

Someone had mentioned previously on the thread as to why not do it in DCA when it closes at 8. I think that would be best thing to do...or to close off a section of the park like toon-town or something. To close down the park for one individual and make countless numbers of people have to rearrange their itinerary and explain to their kids why they have to stay at the hotel and swim instead of watch the fireworks and enjoy the magic of the park does not make any sense.

I think I could fathom the idea a bit more if the price was a little bit more reasonable. Heck you could buy an deluxe A/P for almost the same price as you would pay to get tickets to her b-day bash for the evening. It's quite expensive and I can understand people's frustrations because there are so many people who do want to take their DD's but just can't seem to fork up enough money.

I am wondering a couple things as well. If the park closes at 5 to the general public, will the people with the $250.00 tickets have access to all of the rides and services offered or will it be limited things functioning? Will there be the shows or parades still that are usually scheduled for Sunday's or what will happen. Also, are the people purchasing the tickets aware of what exactly is to be expected. They are calling it a "celebration" so does that mean there will be a full setlist and a concert or just a couple songs or what? So confused  haha. I'll be there the week before (whew) but I definitely feel sorry for people that have to rearrange their schedule and have had their trips booked for a while.

I think when it comes down to it, I think whoever organized this thing whether it be D/L or someone in MC's party has just not organised and planned properly :) :) :)

Just my 2 cents!

bottom line is ...if you were having a 16th celebration (whether it is an obligation to your company or not)would you want it to be in DCA??? not me..I would want it right in front of that castle...

Disney has been doing this type of thing forever. They did it for Michael Jackson in the 90's and it wasn't even for charity. They do it every may for high school grad nights and yes, they do close the parks early, I think it is 7:00 or 8:00. I agree that it sucks for the people who are there, but chances are Miley had nothing to do with the decision. I am definitely not a fan, but at the same time, we are talking about a fifteen year old girl. Everyone around her is making her decisions for her and she will probably get so much flack for this situation.

We have been to Disneyland several times when we have been scooted out for private events. It's never any fun. They just had another event two months ago that was for charity where everyone was asked to leave at 7:00. I think that the big error for Dis is that they did not give people enough notice.
My best friend is going for her birthday that weekend for the first time in 10 years. I'm sure that she won't be thrilled, but what do you do???

WOW If we were going to be there or I lived there, we WOULD be going. To me, $500 is really not all that bad to get to party with the disney stars all night. I would pay it! I just wish we could go.

It's very simple. It's economics:

If you are willing to pay the price, you can buy out Disneyland for the night - celebrity or not.

What exactly will be open? Depends on what was negotiated in the "purchase price."

Everything in life has a price, including buying out Disneyland for a party inviting whomever you choose.

I think it's great that tickets are actually being made available to the public with the money going to a charity, as opposed to the park just being closed for invitees with no exceptions.

Asked DH last night if he wanted to place a bet how fast the party sells out when the tickets go on sale. There are a LOT of parents out there that will pay that kind of money for their kid to have a unique experience without giving it even a second thought.

Just because girls dancing like that has become the norm, doesn't mean it's a good/okay thing. Do girls in regular schools dancing like that have millions of young (pre-teen) girls looking up to them? No. There are many big differences between regular girls doing bad things and girls like Miley doing questionable things. Miley has millions and millions of young girls, ages 6, 7, 8, etc. looking up to her. Even if she didn't intend on being a role model...she has become one. And it's quite sad.

Luckily, kids with good parents will understand what things are and are not appropriate to do.
