My mom is taking me to the Disneyland Resort for a milestone birthday later this spring. She wants to do one special dinner.... I eliminated Steakhouse 55 because my Dad is retiring in June, and although it may be amazing, I don’t want them to spend that much on dinner. The cheapest steak is $52. I’ll save this one for when my husband is buying! Any other suggestions? NOT Blue Bayou! 🤣 Thoughts on Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen? Carthay at DCA? We are staying at the Disneyland Hotel.
Thanks!

Carthay is incredible. And more reasonable than napa or sh55. My wife and I love the food and the atmosphere is lovely vintage elegance.

Thank you! Their fall menu is still listed online, but I’ll keep checking... I think they’ll update for spring?

Carthay is one of my favs as well! I'd definitely prefer a celebratory dinner there over Ralph Brennan's -- but that's not to say that I don't enjoy the Jazz Kitchen; it's just a different kind of vibe for a celebration. I don't know about the frequency of the menu updates at Carthay though.

I love Carthay Restaurant! I feel like eating there has spoiled me in that not everything is as good. Not sure when they update their menu though. If you go, make sure to try the biscuits!

I also like Cafe Orleans. It's not super fancy, but I haven't had bad service here. Also, the beignets at Cafe Orleans have dipping sauce. And the garlic fries are amazing! The pricing is also reasonable for Disney.

The only restaurant I refuse to go back to is River Belle Terrace.

We have all our special meals at Carthay. It's the only place where we've "felt" like it was a special event. I think it's because we are in a quiet place and not rushed at all.

Is the food frou frou fancy at Carthay? Does that even make sense? 🤦‍♀️

Is River Belle the BBQ? My husband said it just sounds bad. 🤣🤣🤣

It’s not frou frou. They have angus beef burgers, pasta, etc. I would say frou frou fancy is Napa Rose lol

And yes river belle has the BBQ. I went last year for my friend’s bday. The food seemed like it say under one of those lamps. Wasn’t fresh at all. The meat on our sandwiches were so dry we had to drink water between each bite. Only positive was our server was super nice. River belle also has the Mickey pancakes but I haven’t been there in a long time for breakfast

Not fru fru but definitely gourmet. When I think fru fru I think small portions. Portions at Carthay are good sized.

If you drink their cocktails are great. Their Carthay martini is epic.

Gourmet is great and yes. We will be drinking on this trip! No kids!!!!

Sounds great. We just want to be full when we are finished. Ha!

That’s too bad about RB. I’m originally from Texas and BBQ is simple food to make and simple to taste good. I make a killer pulled pork at home using like 4 ingredients. There’s just no excuse Disney!

Carthay all the way (ha). My husband is a sailor and has eaten all over the world. He says Carthay was the best meal he'd ever had anywhere (and we've eaten at some pretty awesome places together). I go there every year for my birthday dinner and get treated exceptionally well. Their poison apple martini at Halloweentime is a gateway martini I swear. Fabulous, fresh food, awesome service, and even at Disney prices, completely worth the money you pay.

I found Blue Bayou severely lacking and wouldn't suggest it for a celebratory meal.

We are soul sisters.... we are at BB for my daughter’s bday in January and found it ridiculously overpriced and the food meh.

Thanks for the recommendation!!!!!

We have done a lot of group dinners at Jazz Kitchen and always walk away with a smile.

If your looking for something not super expensive but sit down what about Cafe Orleans or Carnation Cafe. Carnation Cafe is one of my favorite sit downs in Disneyland.

We may try the Jazz Kitchen. It’s not terribly priced and I love the cocktail menu. Nola is like a second home to me and I love the Brennan family. It seems like a fun place and I think we’d love the atmosphere.
Thanks for the tip!

Thank You! We’ve eaten at Cafe Orleans twice, so I think we’ll do something different. I like Carnation Cafe- especially for dinner during the holidays. I love it when it snows and listening to the holiday music!!!’
