"Mild" version of Mission Space okay for kids?

My husband always rides the regular spinning version of Mission Space. I get motion sick so I have never ridden. He has never gone on the "mild" version of the ride, but since the kids have expressed an interest he thought he would try it this time with them.

I'm nervous about this ride. Can anyone tell me what the milder version is like? How different is it from the original?

(I'm sorry if this question has been posted before. I tried to search the threads, but the search engine just keeps saying it's loading the search results but nothing comes up. It's been going forever....)

I have ridden both sides, and the Milder side really is a lot milder!! It does not spin at all, so there is no g-force. It is a simulator like star tours at DHS. It tilts and shakes to give the feelings. I also get motion sick, and the Mild side never ever got me anything even close to nauseous. I would definitely let your kids try the Mild side. All of the kids I've seen on it come off LOVING it!

I've never been on the original version. I have been on the mild side. My DD and DNephew started riding when they were 6 and had no problem. I would say if a person can handle Star Tours then the mild side is fine. The only difference is that it is more enclosed. so a person who has difficulty with that may have a problem.

both my boys ds10 & ds8 rode the mild version last summer and it was fine! If anything they thought it was boring!!:rotfl: I did the reg. version when it first opened, and it did make me dizzy.

I've been on both. The orange one (original) made me want to throw up something fierce. The mild? I was able to finally see how "cool" the ride was and thoroughly enjoy it!

But more to the point of your question - my DS has been on the green (mild) ride about 4 times and LOVES it! He is now 6, but also rode when he was 5.

My 5-yr-old son rode the "green" side and loved it. He was a little miffed when his dad rode the "orange" side without him, but I wasn't sure he could handle it.

my 5yo and 8yo only tried orange and LOVED it. one of their favorite rides. I think it depends more on a person's stomach than their age. and I don't KNOW this, but I'm bet in general more younger kids than adults could handle orange than. remember sit 'n' spins? we played on those for hours as kids but just the thought makes me nauseated now.

Both my girls rode the mild side w/me in Jan 07...they were 7 and 5. The 7 yr old was fine but the 5 year old was almost too small for the seat harness. The "ride" part was fine but the harness seemed to hit her wrong and she could barely see over the chest piece...hard to explain but it made the ride very uncomfortable for both of us....

So...while the RIDE is fine for the younger set, the way your child fits in the seat may make it less fun for them.

Thanks for the replies!! I guess I'll let DD 6 try it with DH. I still think DD 4 is too young. But they both love Star Tours, so if it's a simulator like that, they would probably both be fine.

As for me... I'll still avoid it! Even without the spinning, the tight space is enough to give me the willies!

DS 5-turning-6 did A-OK on the green side. He even has "sensory issues" which made me concerned, but he did beautifully. I think the fact that they give each rider a "job" is a big help in focusing attention away from claustrophobia or motion sickness.

GL with your decision!

to add to this question.....

at our local amusement park, there is this cheesy "ride" where you stand in a circle against a wall in a huge "barrel" --- the "barrel" spins and then the floor drops and because of the G Force - you stay stuck to the wall as your spinning.

Although they are two COMPLETELY different rides, I'm wondering - would this be the same sensation/feeling as that on Mission Space????

One further question (sorry to hijack this thread!)...

DH and I will be in Epcot one week from today. DH gets motion sickness bigtime...I don't have that problem. If we want to ride the two different verions, will we stay in line together until we board? Or does the "orange" version have a totally separate line from the beginning?

May be it is strange, but after riding Green Mission my DD5 said that Star Tours are much-much better :thumbsup2

We did the intense version (April 2006) and the green version (April 2008) and the green version is definitely milder. The orange one not only spins but jerks you around more. Like some other people said, do Star Tours as a test because that's about the same level on intenseness as the green version of Mission Space.

I think it was two different queue lines. I think you had to tell them at the entrance whether you wanted green or orange and you got a "boarding pass" with your color and were directed to different lines. I've only ridden green, but I seem to remember others in a different line from the beginning.

I took DGS on the mild side on our last trip and he loved it. He had just turned 8. I suffer from motion sickness and claustrophobia and enjoyed the ride myself. As far as the line question, there are two separate lines so you would have to separate. DH was going to try the orange side until we found that out so he stayed with us.
