Mild Rant: I must be getting old and impatient

I meant the "you" in my last paragraph to be a general "you". Not you in particular nanalisa.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one. I think people should take care of their own family members and not expect strangers to do it for them. Personal responsibility is a great thing! If someone doesn't see to their own family's needs, and then expects strangers to do so for them, then they are in fact pawning off that responsibility. Which I find more offensive than someone keeping their seat on a bus. Ymmv.

None of the above should keep people from offering up their seat IF THEY CHOOSE TO DO SO. However, EXPECTING they do so and being mad if they don't is very selfish and rude. Be grateful when someone extends you a courtesy. Not demanding of it.

I can agree to disagree. I don't expect it and I don't get (too) angry, I just think it's nice when it happens. I don't even give sitting folks the stink eye. We probably shouldn't talk about how full they pack those busses...

I think it is nice when people try and help others out of a jam too.:) I just don't think getting on a bus and expecting someone to get out of their seat for you is nice either. Most of it is in the approach too, I think. Be nice about it, and most people will help you out. Be nasty, and I hope they don't.

From what I have seen, most of the time if there is a mom standing there struggling to hold a child or a stroller, someone will help them out. I've rarely been on a bus and thought "Geeze, that person should really be sitting". Usually if someone looks like they need a seat, someone sees to it that they have one.

So come on! Realize you can't judge someone and their physical capabilities just by looking at them. Sometimes when you make assumptions about others, that old saying about assuming comes true.

Btw, I never said in my previous post what I would do if I saw someone who appeared to need a seat. If I could, I would get up. I've actually had family members block me from getting up when they thought I should keep my seat! However, I still think that each family needs to take care of themselves first! Care enough for your own family members that if they need a seat, YOU see to it they have one. Rent a car, use taxis to get around, or even wait for a bus that has open seating. Don't pawn off that responsibility on a bus full of people you don't know. And then say they are the rude ones.:sad2:

maxie! that SO describes my hubby! not the balance, necessary. his blood pressure varies. he takes meds for high blood pressure, but this last trip, fainted from low blood pressure and dehydration at mK, hit his head.. possible concussion. tried to take it easy the rest of the trip. somtime used a wheel chair in the parks, but not back to the resort.

but normally, can walk fine, but due to 5 foot surgeries, needs a break now and then.. and his back doesn't like standing in one place.

anyhow, he will often try to stand up for a lady. which is why I shove him in first, so he can't.. and we both stand often, and give up our seats often. but, if we can't or really want to sit for a change, we will, without feeling guilty. (well, I wont'; feel guilty, he will)

if tyou really need a seat, wait for the next bus. do not give the evil eye to a guy, who all you knowfinally has a seat for the first time all week, and his foot and back are killing him, and he is a bit dizzy, too.

I completely agree with everything you said. It's people thinking they are entitled to anything and everything. I HATE climbing over people in a theater, and vice versa. Just MOVE DOWN. Also, that poopy diaper thing just sickens me. Absolutely wrong. If you can't get up at that very moment in time to throw a dirty diaper away, at least hold onto it until you can. That is just rude.

Wow, I never expected to get so many replies and to see so many dialogs begin on this thread. Thanks to everyone for your input.

This has helped me feel much better, reminding me that most people want to share the parks and all the wonderful activities there with those around them. I will try harder to be like a duck and let the bad behavior slide off my back more often. :)
